- This is an excellent lens in directing the visitor to examine the battlefield with a view toward experiencing the thoughts and emotions of the soldiers memorialized there. If I may, please allow me to submit one piece of constructive criticism. The Confederate States Army soldiers were not "rebels." That was a term of derision at the time, and simply inaccurate. The Confederate States of America was a sovereign country, and as such, was in the process of repelling and attacking an invading army.
The Confederate States seceded from the United States of America by the same legislative process whereby accession was previously accomplished. (This was certainly "Constitutional," as the first states to threaten to secede from the United States were a few northern states who were loathe to comply with the fugitive slave act.)
Confederates, or Confederate soldiers would be an accurate description, and would certainly improve an already excellent lens in most respects.
Best Regards to you and thanks for sharing your love of history through this lens.
