Problems With Hiring A Ghostwriter

If you're thinking of making a presence on the internet, you need to have lots of content so that people can find you.

Developing content yourself is a tiring task. You either have a PHOBIA with writing, or you don't have the time to create the content yourself.

You need to hire a ghostwriter - and you need to hire a good one.

The problem with hiring a ghostwriter is, you have the risk of getting poor content which you cannot associate your name with.

This is one of the most frustrating problems, internet marketers are facing. They hire ghostwriters to churn out content for them, but the quality is not there.

Many marketers hire ghostwriters from other countries such as India and the Philippines because they are cheap. However a lot of the writers don't have English as their first language.

The marketers see the poor quality and then decide to re-write the content themselves or get another ghostwriter to redo them.

If you're looking to have someone ghostwrite for you, choose someone who has good feedback and reviews from their past customers.

Paying cheap prices for ghostwritten content does not work out cheap at the end. You're producing poor content which is giving your business a bad reputation.

You get what you paid for.

How To Hire A Ghostwriter

Steps To Hiring A Ghostwriter That Delivers

1. Ask for referrals or use the search engines to look for a ghostwriter who you are comfortable with.

2. Look at samples of their work. Whether it's an ebook, articles, sales letter or autoresponder messages.

3. As well as the English, study the sample and see if it is written clearly with facts.

4. Check if the ghostwriter can do the research for you. One of the things you want the ghostwriter to take care of is research. This will save a lot of your time hand holding the ghostwriter.

5. Look at the testimonials from the ghostwriter's past customers. A ghostwriter with testimonials show how confident they are with their service. Although you need to be careful of fake testimonials. You can be the judge.

6. Look at what other services the ghostwriter offers. If they only offer ghostwriting articles, then it's not much point asking them to write an ebook or report. You don't want to try and see if it works out at the end. You need to be sure.

7. Look at the ghostwriter's prices. Decide for yourself if what they ask for is justified. If you ask someone to write 5 articles that will take 3 hours of their time, do you think it makes sense for them to charge $25 for the work. This works out to be $5 per article for 3 hours of work?

You can tell how successful and how good the ghostwriter is by how much they charge. Even for people living in India can charge a lot if they produce quality content.

8. Email the ghostwriter and ask them questions before placing an order. You can test how responsive they are with your emails and can therefore foresee the customer service that you'll be getting.

9. Ask the ghostwriter to give you a table of contents first to see if they know what to write about for your ebook or articles.

Generate Web Traffic Using Ad Swap And A Freelance Writer

If you want to generate web traffic to your website consistently, but find the tasks difficult and time-consuming to implement, then here's a way that is much more effective than what you are currently doing, and it doesn't require a lot of your time. It is called ad swapping.

An ad swap is when you contact website owners who are in the same niche as you and exchange ads. The online business owner will send one of your ads to his list, and you will send his ad to your list.

Here's how it works. Your ad should be offering something of value that is free for people to subscribe and download. It could be an ebook, software, videos or an e-course.

Your email, will have a link to your squeeze page where you will capture the visitors' email address. The whole point of your ad is to build your list.

Now when people are subscribed to your list, you can warm them up by emailing them good information from your autoresponder. In time, you can pitch them with your own products and services or products which you are an affiliate of.

The website owner who you contact for the ad swap, needs to have a similar sized list as you. So if you have a list of 1,000 subscribers, you will be contacting online business owners with around the same number of subscribers.

The more ad swaps you do, the bigger your email list will grow. This method does not require you to spend any money. Just contact the list owners and send them your ad.

So if you did an ad swap with 5 different list owners a week, and each of them gave you 30 subscribers, you will add around 150 people to your email list. Imagine how much time and money this will need if you ran pay per click campaigns to get the same result?

The best offer to put on your squeeze page is something which is targeted to the niche you're selling to and it is something that you own. An ebook is an excellent offer. It will show your expertise and have links to your products and services. You'll be building a list, sending targeted traffic to your website and branding yourself as an expert.

So if you don't have an ebook of your own, get one created that shows your expertise in the market. Provide valuable information and inform those readers of your products and services. Never offer other people's products and lose the chance of further gaining your subscribers' trust.

10 Things That Show You Hired A Wrong Ghostwriter

1. Your order is delayed but you haven't received a response from them.

2. The work is delivered but it's not what you asked for. They need to revise it and get back to you much later.

3. The English is very poor. eg. Tomorrow I went to the Library.

4. It's obviously stuffed with keywords which readers will laugh at.

5. The content has no valuable information. It just waffles on and teaches nothing to the reader.

6. They disappear and never answer your emails. Only after you request a refund, would they reply.

7. You start hearing in forums about how bad this ghostwriter is and that they're charging too much for the quality produced.

8. The ghostwriter says he has no samples to show you because it's his policy.

9. You run your article or report through CopyScape and you find that it matches with other content.

10. You've read the content the ghostwriter produced for you. It looks very much like a re-written which you already have.

Ghostwriting Articles - How Much Should You Pay?

This is an interesting question which is always asked. How much should you pay for a ghostwriter to write your articles?

The answer is...it depends :-)

The points below are based on a 500 word article and it is only a guideline. You can get ghostwriters starting out charging very cheap prices who are good - it depends on your luck.

1. You want content written for Adsense clicks
If you are looking for content to put on your website so that you get traffic just for the Adsense clicks, then you should get inexpensive articles.

Around $4 - $5 is a good guideline. You don't expect these articles to be written perfectly and you don't expect it to contain valuable information.

You need to provide keywords to the ghostwriting services company and let them create articles based on the keywords.

2. You want articles to drive targeted traffic
If you want to write articles to generate targeted traffic, then you should be looking to pay in the region of $10 or above.

The ghostwriter will do their research on the articles and will write them in good English with some valuable content.

They will/should also search optimize your articles so that you will get search engine traffic.

3. You want articles to drive lots of targeted traffic and to establish yourself as an expert
For these type of articles, you can expect to pay from $15 - $25 per article.

The ghostwriting services that you get should:

- create an attractive and search engine optimized title for your article to attract more clicks

- written in good English and interesting for the reader

- has a good valuable content throughout the article which will lead the user to click on the resource box after they get to the end of the article

When you pay between $15 - $25 per article, the ghostwriter will be doing more research and take more time in writing your article.

With the valuable information in your article, you'll also be branding yourself as an expert who is very knowledgeable and you'll respect from the readers.

You get what you pay for. So before you get your money out to hire a ghostwriter, ask yourself what is your purpose for the ghostwritten articles.

Adding More Value To Your Ghostwriting Service

One of the things I do to add more value to my ghostwriting service is provide advice for my customers. You can learn apply the same methodology to your own business. I'll explain more.

Here are the things I offer which makes my customers happy in doing business with me.

1. When I get contacted to write an ebook on a particular niche, I give them advice on what domain names to use which have their keywords in it. I only offer it as a suggestion and the customers really appreciate this extra service. It makes me stand out from the rest of the ghostwriters.

2. I make remarks on the niche they have chosen such as who their competitors are and what additional ideas they can copy and use for their own products.

Again, this comes out of the blue. My customers are amazed at this kind suggestion and it doesn't take me long either. I come across these things when I do research for their topics.

3. Deliver on time or before. Whenever I receive a ghostwriting project, I will give them a date where everything is complete.

When I deliver on time or one or two days earlier, this is viewed as excellent customer service. The thing is, people have an expectation of things being delayed. When you do something out of their expectation, you're a winner.

4. I notify them when the delivery date is late. I'm not perfect but when the projects have a chance of being delayed, I inform my customer ASAP. All of my customers I am glad to say appreciate this. They won't get angry and even thank you in return for telling them. The majority of companies and services don't take their promises seriously. When there is a delay they won't tell you. It's normal business practice to them.

As you can see, adding more value doesn't mean spending a lot of time or a lot of extra expenses. It requires doing little things that tell your customers you care about them.

HI Mike - Good to hear from a fellow ghostwriter. Nice tip about letting customers see the first one or two articles. I'll get around to adding more tips, once I get some free time.

    Hi Alan,

Great lense! I'm new to Squidoo. In fact, I just started an account after I read your lense. Being a ghostwriter myself, I would have to say that your lense is very factual. I really enjoyed the customer service section. I'd like to add a practice that I use frequently, which is to provide the client with the first one to two articles before I write the entire batch. That way they can tell me if I'm on the right track. It also makes them secure in the knowledge that I care about them, what they think and will do everything in my power to see that they're successful.

Great rundown list! I have such a phobia over having someone else create content. This list is good for helping me overcome that. Thanks.
