Giant Squid Summer School Challenge #4 "Acknowlegments"

Giant Acknowlegments
As part of the Giant Squid Summer School, participating Giants receive a specific weekly lensmaking challenge. They have a week to work on the lens, and then post it below to "turn in" their homework and show that it's done.

The Week 4 Challenge is to make an Acknowledgments lens.

"When an author writes a book, she writes an Acknowledgments section where she pays homage to and says thanks for all the people who helped along the way.

Acknowledging the people who got you where you are, or helped with a particular project, or inspire you daily, is a great way to recommend people for their work (and say thanks). So this week's challenge is to make an Acknowledgments lens of your own."

"The secret to your success with these lenses is that when you say thanks, say it loud and say it proud. If you're including someone in your Acknowledgments lens, make sure he or she knows about it. Send it to the bloggers you mentioned, to the Realtor you thanked, to the contractor you love, to the authors you claimed as mentors.

Imagine how you would feel if someone included you in his Acknowledgments.

Personal and relevant and annotated recommendation is what makes the web go round."

Here's what the Giant Squid Summer School Class of 2009 came up with!

And with just hours to spare, here is my acknowledgement lens! It's about my mom, and how lucky I am to have her. It's called Thank you, Mamie Lu!

Probably the longest lens I have created, but a joy to do. Thanks to all my Squidoo fans: a lens especially for you :)

Thanks for the opportunity to thank and acknowledge my web design mentor. More than a decade ago she helped shape my direction as I made a major career and life change. Nancy Hoft is a brilliant, talented and wise woman - I'm fortunate to have met her and learned from her.

This one was a tough one...sooooo many to thank (very many of them in this guestbook). But, I had to choose the Friends for the miracle they pulled off last October.

There are too many to list. Many of you know who you are, but more of you do not. The Squidoo community as a whole has helped me to find my bearings and then my footing on this slippery slope. Thank you to everyone who has provided support and information whether publicly or privately.

I want to thank all those in charge of this assignment. I really made me look deeply into my heart and it gave me a chance to thank my sister in a truly special way. She and I have been going through hard times (lost our dad, having extreme financial issues, etc) and she has been there for me at every step, even when she had her own loads to carry.

I think of the 120 lenses I have made, I am, perhaps, most proud of this one. It feels honest and touching to me...and I hope it makes an impact on even just a few people.

Thanks again, for the challenge. My lens is linked on the list above and is called Celebrating Sisters! I Love My Sister!

I hope some of you will have a chance to drop by.

    Spread the love.

Realized that the other lens I published today is also an acknowledgment lens. Gone Too Soon is a way for me to acknowledge those who have died too young and inspired or continue to inspire me.

Finally got the Acknowledgment lens done. The way it was structured, I had to get several other lenses that were WIP's done first. Who did I choose to thank? My lens is "A Thank You to My Daughters."

Great idea for a homework assignment, Robin. It gave me an opportunity to officially thank my Squidoo Role Models. Are you one of them? Check it and see: My Squidoo Role Models.

Rather tricky since most of the people I would thank actively dislike the web and would not be pleased by a lens! Instead I've done a lady who I greatly admire.

I haven't really done an acknowledgement lens about my fellow squids so this assignment focused on that. I would like to do a few more of these in the future.

Michael Kunze is the most successful German stage author and musical creator of all times. He was my greatest mentor when I worked in the music business as a songwriter and arranger. 37 years ago, he said something to me that stuck with me for the rest of my life. I made a lens about this story, and to say thank you for changing my life forever.
