A Halloween Contest ~~ Giant Squid Style

Okay Giant Squids, it's time to show your stuff again for this contest. What is your favorite Halloween costume? Have you already used it or will it debut this year? Do you have a spooktacular recipe for a Halloween treat? A ghoulishly delightful tale from a Halloween past, or simply a favorite Halloween tradition? What is the absolute best idea for a Halloween party ever? Have you ever made your own Jack-O'-lantern? Tell us your stories, show us your pictures, wow us with an awesome lens - and enter the contest.

So, How Do I Enter?

First, you need to be a Giant Squid to enter this contest.
Second, the lens (or lenses) you enter must be in the SquidBOO! format.
Third, the lens needs to be about a costume idea, a favorite story or piece of Halloween lore, a Jack-O'-lantern you made, or a great party idea or Halloween treat.

So that's it: three easy steps to the coolest Halloween contest ever.

Once you have your lens, add it to one of the link lists below (any voting may not necessarily indicate the winner, just so you know) no later than ten o'clock pm (eastern) the night of Saturday, October 18th, 2008. (If you want confirmation of your entry, send me a note through the "Contact me" button, and I'll e-mail you back.)

What's In It For Me?

What Do I Win?

A winner from each category will be given a featured spot on the SquidBOO! Headquarters home page through the season for Halloween 2008. Not to mention the bragging rights involved with winning, and the accolades you will receive.

Are there other perks or prizes -- who knows, there just might be.

Just What Is A Spooktacular Idea?

Tell a story about a favorite Halloween costume you had as a kid, or a fantastic idea for one you've worn to a party as an adult?

What was the coolest thing you ever did to 'spiff up' a costume you bought or were given?

What were the details of the coolest Halloween party you ever threw, or attended ('cause with Halloween parties, it's all in the details...).

Do you have a favorite Halloween treat or tradition in your family?

Tell me about a Halloween icon, or tradition, or superstition and how it came to be - and I mean really tell me about it.

Show me the coolest Jack-O'-lantern (yes, that's really how you spell it, I looked it up in two places!) you ever made. Even better, chronicle the making of your Jack-O'-lantern from pumpkin to finished product.

For A Halloween Costume, Which Is Better?

Store Bought or Home Made

Which do you prefer for your Halloween costume -- store bought, or home made? Can you tell me why?

Store Bought All The Way!

awelldressedbullet says:

Definitely store bought, cuz unless I can fit into a pumpkin, I can't sew! And I must admit, they do actually have so many really nice ones. Besides who has time to make a costume when we are busy making lenses?

EclecticWAHM says:

It's a time thing...the store. Or something literally thrown together from what's in the closet.

JaguarJulie says:

Well, at the moment, what with all this Squidoo-dilling, I don't have time to devote to a homemade costume so I'm going for the store bought! Just can't decide which witch. ;)

Christene says:

Store bought.
I'm not talented enough to make my own. And...my extra time goes to Squidoo! I wouldn't have time to make one. ;)

I Much Prefer Home Made

CCGAL says:

Home made because it's more fun and makes Halloween last all month, and because that's the only way we can be SURE nobody else will have the same one.

The_Party_Animal says:

Home Made all the way - dare to be different

prosperity66 says:

A homemade witch... while I would like to have more sewing skills and wear a Berverly Hillbillies' costume ;-)

janices7 says:

I like to sew and I've made lots of fun Halloween costumes like Mr. Potato Head and a Giant Pumpkin in the past. It is great fun to get those creative juices flowing. That said, this year, I'll probably have to do a store bought costume because I'm running out of time - seems I've become a Squidaholic so the time just keeps ticking away much faster than I realize.

Eclectic_Muse says:

I've done both...I really wish there was a response for the fence straddlers--me! Lately I've been doing a combination. It seems to work well when store bought doesn't quite hit the mark.

Own The "Monster Mash"

The Original Monster Mash

Amazon Price: (as of 07/05/2009)Buy Now
List Price: $11.98

You really should own the original "Monster Mash" This is the the one and only complete album (from the 60's)sung by Bobby Boris Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers. Much of the songs are re-mixed and re-mastered, yet it retains it's lighthearted fun. It's a must have for your Halloween party - for the song "Monster Mash" alone, but is invaluable for it's nostalgia factor too. I wore out my vinyl album of this, did you?

As a new Giant Squid, I hope it's okay to enter the contest. I couldn't decide which category my lens fit best into, so I entered it into 2 different ones. We love Halloween, but don't have any trick or treaters where we live. I guess it's toooo spooky back here in the deep, dark woods!
