Giant Lego man found in Dutch sea
Have you ever been at your desk clicking around the 'net and have come across something so profound, so off-the-wall, so funny that you stopped everything and tried to find out everything you could about it?
Well, that happened to me today when I read the following headline on Digg, "Giant Lego man found in Dutch sea."
This Squidoo lens is dedicated to mystery surrounding Giant Lego Man and the viral marketing campaign idea that overwhelmed me as I dug deeper into the story.
The Official Story on Giant Lego Man from Reuters
AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - A giant, smiling Lego man was fished out of the sea in the Dutch resort of Zandvoort on Tuesday.Workers at a drinks stall rescued the 2.5-metre (8-foot) tall model with a yellow head and blue torso.
"We saw something bobbing about in the sea and we decided to take it out of the water," said a stall worker. "It was a life-sized Lego toy."
A woman nearby added: "I saw the Lego toy floating towards the beach from the direction of England."
The toy was later placed in front of the drinks stall.

Giant Lego Man washed ashore in Zandvoort
yesterday a giant lego man landed on the beachy shores of Zandvoort, The Netherlands. Some tourist filmed the last few meters of his probably heroic journey across the sea. The Lego Man appears to go by the name of Ego Leonard. There's a (second) website at www.egoleonard.nl.

No Real Than You Are
If I were a staff writer for a newspaper, this would scream to me to give the title a funny twist. Here are a few of my ideas, do you have any others?
Viral marketing campaign idea
Wow, I wish I had thought of that...
As a marketing professional, I am always trying to come up with unique ways to get my message across through the clutter that is known as life today. One of my few successes is creating a few Fishing Blooper video clips and posting them on YouTube to support the fishing blooper DVD's that my company sells.
But, this small success can not compare to the power of Giant Lego Man! If I were a marketing manager that had a little extra money in the budget, I would commission a Giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man that included a VERY unique slogan on it's blue bib. Then I would create a Web site or Blog that is search engine optimized for this unique slogan. Then I would take my Giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and drop him off (at night) in the middle of a lake in a park somewhere.
Let the viral marketing campaign begin!

More About Giant Lego Man on the Web
- Giant Lego man
- A huge Lego man is seen at the beach of Zandvoort in the Netherlands, where the owners of a beach pub discovered it on Aug. 07, 2007. Nobody seemed to know where it came from.
- Giant Lego Man Found in Sea
- Staff at a drinks stand in the Netherlands resort of Zandvoort were amazed to find a 2.5-meter (8-foot) Lego man washed up on the beach Tuesday. It was rescued from the water and placed upright on the beach, to the delight of children. Nobody had any idea where the smiling Lego figure had come from, but there was speculation it might have come over from England, while suspicious pundits on the Web site Reddit feared it might be a Trojan horse "full of small Lego people about to attack Holland." However the ungrammatical slogan on the figure's chest, "No real than you are," led via a Google search to www.egoleonard.com, a Dutch Web site which appears to belong to an artist or art collective. Perhaps the mysterious figure is just another work of environmental art.
- Giant Lego Man Washes Ashore in Holland
- A giant 2.5 meter Lego man mysteriously washed up on the Dutch resort of Zandvoort, joining the ranks of such publicity stunts as 1984's giant Swatch in Frankfurt and the life-size Lego crane that hit Chile last year.
In a digital twist, the mysterious castaway has his own site at EgoLeonard.nl, which invites users to become his friend and sheds light on his motives.
The plastic invader, dubbed Ego Leonard, came wearing a shirt bearing the words, "NO REAL THAN YOU ARE." On his website, it explains that Leonard comes from a virtual world inundated with "fortune-hunters and people drunk with power." Given the bad apples, Leonard has decided to learn about the real world.
With such a message, it's hard to determine just who is behind Leonard. Is it a commentary on the Wild West that is the web? Perhaps a rogue Lego account planner trying to put a philosophy degree to use? - Giant LEGO man emerges from the ocean
- If your children are into LEGOs, you know that this line of toys goes way beyond the small colored blocks the company is famous for. In fact, there's an entire world of LEGO gear, including vehicles, offices, towns, and a host of little LEGO people to inhabit them.
Well one of those little people grew up -- a lot -- and had been trekking across the North Sea. The 8-foot-tall yellow man was spotted bobbing in the sea by workers at a nearby beverage stand, who were fortunately able to rescue him from the water. Up until this point, the LEGO man has remained silent about his ordeal, but it's hoped the words "NO REAL THAN YOU ARE" -- mysteriously written on the man's shirt -- will eventually offer some insight into the nature of his treacherous journey.
Only time will tell.
