Lensmaking Challenge #7: The Next Book You're Going To Read

Next Book
As part of the Giant Squid Summer School, participating Giants receive a specific weekly lensmaking challenge. They have a week to work on the lens, and then post it below to "turn in" their homework and show that it's done.

This week's challenge is to make a SquidLit lens about the NEXT book you're going to read.

Not a book you've already read. Rather, make a super light lens about the book you have next on your list or bookshelf, why you want to read it, who recommends it, do a little background research about the author, and then send it or tweet it or Facebook it to 5 friends and see if anyone wants to read it with you!

Here's what the Giant Squid Summer School Class of 2009 came up with!

I finally came up with one for this one. I had the book, but couldn't make myself finish the lens. The mood hit today and it's done.

Whew! Just made it as the new assignment comes in! Busy Week!

My kids want me to read The Greatest Show OFF Earth by Margaret Mahy. It has been a favorite for them both for years. Great if you want to read with your kids! (so I am told - sounds a little StRanGe too (sort of "Roald Dahl" like).
I also added a bunch of quotes by the author on Writing that you folks might like!

Only one more week??? Waaah! I am having fun too! AND learning!

I turned in "Teachings From The Pleiadians" last night and didn't remember signing the guest book, so I'm back. This was a challenge for me but its all good!!! Thanks Robin!

Another great idea for a homework assignment! I would really appreciate some book reviews on the book Twilight, if anyone has read it.

I quite enjoyed this assignment, though for some reason I couldn't get the Squidlit template to work. I'm really looking forward to reading my book 'We Are All Made Of Glue' now.

Oh goody ... for once I'm not late with my homework! I chose the Brady Bunch tell-all by Maureen McCormick.

Right down my ally! I didn't have to think twice for the book I wanted to read. It also fit perfectly into my wish for a discussion on its topic. I am NOT so good at knowing how to use/credit Creative Commons, so until now I stayed away. However, with so many great uses throughout SquidLand I wanted to get on board. If anyone sees a problem I would be glad to know how to CC better.

I like how this book is flowing, it's one of those reads that take some time though, so you can apply what you're reading. Have fun. http://www.squidoo.com/four-spiritual-laws-of-prosperity

The book that I've been toting around to read all summer, Screamfree Parenting http://www.squidoo.com/screamfree-parenting found it's way into another lens for this assignment. I think it is a great resource to learn how to control our emotional reactivity. Looking forward to reading it. Hope some of you join me.

Fun assignment! Unfortunately, I don't have much time to read these days, but I can never pass up a Dan Brown book so I'm eagerly anticipating the release in September. I've been looking at some of the previous assignment submissions and there are so many good books to choose from...I wish I had more time to read!!

Yeah! Finally an easy summer school assignment -- would you believe, this is SO ironic and timely for me today -- that is Reality Check -- I need one seriously -- but that would be too much information. Suffice to say that I recently attended a webinar, participating on twitter, and have a signed copy of Guy Kawasaki's book coming -- my next book! ;)

I had only one book on my 'to read' pile that was worth a review in my eyes. But I doubt I'll find people to read it with me, as this assignment implies. Anyhow - done: http://www.squidoo.com/giant-squidlit

I had several sitting in the "to read" pile. I picked the "This is Not the Life I Ordered" because it was one of the first that I found and it may also be the shot of inspiration I feel I need right now.

I haven't really participated too much in the summer school, having come into it late as a new Giant, but I couldn't pass this one up. I had the perfect book and a reason why I'd been putting off reading it: because the author has asked me to review it. Yikes! Well, this assignment inspired me to finally pick it up and turn to page one.

This one was easy for me because I love to make lenses about books. I chose a book about Bigfoot and will plug my "Tribal Bigfoot Reading Group" on my blog, Bigfoot Sightings.

I followed Megan's style of creating a book club and created a lens that was on my To Do list anyway. Hopefully, it will attract some readers but if not, I'll have the groundwork done for a lens I wanted to do anyway.

I'm so glad we're doing this assignment. It motivated me to start reading Thunderstruck, which has been sitting on my reading table. I started reading it as soon as I finished my lens. What a terrific read already!
