A Day in the Life of a Squidoo Community Organizer

Ranked #3,883 in Squidoo Community, #292,828 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund

Or: what exactly does rms do all day?

I've been a member of the team of Giant Squid Organizers for about a year now and I'm sure some of you must be curious as to what it is we actually do.

I've decided to give you all a little peek at what a day looks like for me being one of Squidoo's Giant Squid Organizers.

I can't swear that Bonnie's life is as glamorous as mine, but I know we share some important similarities.

First Let Me Introduce You...

To my Partner in Crime

Bdkz,, and I make up the team of Giant Squid Organizers.

Each of us does at least some small part of each and everything that we do and accomplish for the Giant Squid Lensmaster Program.

Next I'd Like to Introduce You to My Electric Coffee Pot

The 4-12 Cup Farberware Stainless-Steel Electric Percolator

At my house, you'll usually smell the coffee percolating by 6:30am. And yes, I do use an old-fashioned electric percolator coffee pot. My mother-in-law likes steaming hot coffee and now the entire family is addicted to it. (With the exception of my son who complains about having to wait 10 minutes before being able to take a sip because it's too hot.)

I've got a laptop computer sitting on my kitchen table and I usually check my email while I wake up with a couple of cups.

Then it's off to work... which I also do at my kitchen table... because I'm a stay-at-home-mom as well as a Squidoo Organizer. {smile}

Now that I think of it, most of my life actually revolves around my kitchen table, and my coffee pot.

I spend most of my day online at Squidoo.com drinking coffee and doing all different kinds of Giant Squid Stuff...

I Look for New Giant Squid Lensmasters

I'm Gonna Get You Sooner of Later

As a Giant Squid Organizer I'm always on the lookout for talented Squidoo lensmasters. In fact, no matter what else I'm doing while I'm online at Squidoo, I'm always keeping an eye out for talented lensmasters.

The Giant Squids consist of the brightest, most creative, most talented and awe-inspiring lensmasters at Squidoo but we know that we haven't found them all yet.

We know there's a lot more of you out there just waiting to create that 50th fabulous lens so that you too can qualify for the elite title, badge, and gold star-iness of becoming a Giant Squid Lensmaster.

You can learn more about the Giant Squids by visiting:
The Giant Squids( and how you can be one)

As a Giant Squid Organizer, part of my job is to find new Giants on a quarterly basis but that's not all I do...

I Also Champion for the "Already" Giant Squids

I'm Here for You!

Giant Squid Organizers are always working to find new ways to help the Giant Squid lensmasters.

We champion for more perks and more lensmaking tools.

We're here to help you find the answers to your questions.

And we're here to listen to your concerns.

But that's not all I do. At least 5 times a week...

And I Look for Purple Star Quality Lenses

Woe is Me :o)

One of the biggest jobs of the Giant Squid Organizers is visiting lenses everyday.

I've visited literally thousands of lenses and I never get tired of the vast amounts of creativity that I find in them. I've learned so many new things and "met" a huge portion of the community by reading their lenses.

The thing that amazes me most is that the lensmasters are all given the same modules and tools and yet each of the lenses are so brilliantly unique from each other.

Being able to award Purple Stars to deserving Giant Squids is a privilege that I don't take lightly.

Each Purple Star that is awarded to a Giant Squid lens is earned for independent reasons.

With so many outstanding lenses already existing on Squidoo (and more being created every day) it might take us a while to get to yours.

You can help us find the best of the best Giant Squid lenses. Learn more about Purple Stars and how you can help by visiting:
The Purple Star Program

On the Flip Side

You gotta take the Good with the Bad!

Giant Squid Organizers also have to keep an eye out for BAD Giants.

A bad Giant is someone who wants to take advantage of the many Giant Squid perks and use them for evil purposes instead of good.

That's the part of the job that I don't like very much but to be honest, it rarely happens. We are very lucky to attract so many of the best people to Squidoo!

By the Way...

We don't stop at 50

Everything we three Giant Squid Organizers do for the Giant Squid Lensmasters, we also do for the 100 Club members!

You can learn more about the 100 Club by visiting:
The Giant Squids 100 Club

I Still Make My Own Lenses Too

I'm a Giant Squid!

I still enjoy creating my own lenses about all the things I love.

I'm Proud to be a RocketMom!

There's more, of course. In addition to writing quests, managing quests, blogging at the Squidblog, and other official duties, I also keep my family clothed and fed but I'm a little tired right now....
I'll fill you in on the rest of what I do some other time.

  • 24websurf Jul 4, 2009 @ 8:52 pm | delete
I have watched in awe as the 3 of you have maintained the balance of Squidoo Giants, RocketMoms, Angel Duty, answer email and posts, give the baby squid personal amounts of your time, create your own lenses, promote, encourage and yet still maintain your sanity and a life in the real world. Were you also given extra hours in the day along with your status changes? :) All I can say is that when I grow, I want to be just like you!
  • partybuzz Jul 3, 2009 @ 1:54 pm | delete

I always wondered what you Community Organizers did - I thought it involved making chocolate chip cookies for some reason! Oh well, while you are drinking your piping-hot coffee in the morning I am lounging next to my laptop sipping tea :) Thanks for giving us a peek at your day!
  • KarateKatGraphics Jun 13, 2009 @ 1:27 pm | delete
Wow, you are one busy lady. But we knew that :) Interesting about the Bad Giants, but glad to hear they're a rarity. 5***** and keep inspiring us SquidShrimps! ;)

  • Sojourn Jun 10, 2009 @ 10:09 pm | delete
Robin, wanted to thank you for all you do for the community. As a fairly new member, I've learned so much from reading the forum posts of others and browsing lots of lenses. I know visiting lenses can be time consuming so I'm sure your day is completely full yet you show such grace and dedication. Much appreciated. :)
  • Joan4 Jun 10, 2009 @ 11:42 am | delete
Absolutely amazing -- I really don't know how the 3 of you do as much as you do! I seem to stay behind every single day! You must be incredibly organized! Love the lens - maybe someday we will share a cup of coffee! I still want to have a Squidoo Convention!
  • Susan52 Jun 10, 2009 @ 10:28 am | delete
Robin, you're amazing. Bonnie and Patti are amazing as well. I don't know how you do it all - and do it so well! Thanks for the great glimpse into your glamorous day!

I'm glad I'm not the only one to wake up at the computer while drinking coffee ;)
  • Treasures-By-Brenda Jun 9, 2009 @ 1:44 pm | delete
Not sure where you find the time to make your own lenses!
Glad to hear that the three of you lead such glamorous lives!
I agree with your comment about the fact that over and over and over and over again we all use the same modules and tools and yet the lenses are so different! Even when there are ten on the same subject.
Your lens gives not only a great peek into the life of a GSO but also into Squidoo in general.
    Great job,
    Blessed by Brenda.
