Introduction
The Giant's Causeway was formed around 60 Million years ago from volcanic eruptions. When the lava became cool and hardened, it produced the layers of dark coloured rock that you can see today.
Many people have their own theories and scientific arguments as to the origins of the stones and the reasons that they have their unique shape.
One such theory is the myth of Finn McCool, an Irish Giant.

The Legend Of The Giant's Causeway - Finn McCool
He challenged Benandonner to a battle, but Benondonner couldn't swim and wasn't that interested in making a trip to Ireland.
This made Finn even more angry and he decided to build a causeway between Ireland and Scotland. The causeway stretched from North Antrim to Staffa.
When Benandonner heard this he decided to take up the challenge and head to Ireland. As Benandonner appeared over the horizon, Finn McCool soon realised in horror that he had challenged a much bigger rival. He was so scared he ran home to his wife Oonagh.
'Oonagh, what am I going to do', he said after explaining the situation to her. Quickly realising what was happening, Oonagh disguised Finn as a baby and made him curl up in an enormous cradle.
Benandonner banged on the door and demanded to know where Finn McCool was. Oonagh said, 'Hush!, you'll wake the baby. I don't know where Finn is at the moment. I'm sure he will be back soon'.
When Benandonner saw Finn's baby, he took fright at the size it's father would be and fled back to Scotland tearing up the causeway as he went.
