Giant Squid Summer School Challenge #6 "Just Five"

Just Five
As part of the Giant Squid Summer School, participating Giants receive a specific weekly lensmaking challenge. They have a week to work on the lens, and then post it below to "turn in" their homework and show that it's done.

The Summer School Week 6 assignment is to pick 5, just 5 modules and make a stellar lens. Think about how you can make a useful, interesting, meaningful, very focused lens using a very small space. Be creative with this one. Utilize your space and make EVERY word and photo count.

Here's what the Giant Squid Summer School Class of 2009 came up with!

I thought 5 modules would not be enough space but this was a great exercise as it seems like it was just right. Loved the discipline and may be using this format to get more lenses produced and out the door in the future. My lenses tend to be way too long so I have way too many sitting pending. I love the 5 as a restriction to publish and get them out the door.

I was actually able to make another lens for this assignment - my new favorite template is my 5-module version - Here's the second one in this series:

Squidoo Bartering Goods and Services is an idea I got while talking to a friend recently. I believe bartering sites are going to be the next~wave of the internet. Imagine being able to get something you want a or need with no money, just a fair bartering exchange of goods and services. ~ My assignment is in, it was fun to go with 5 modules. Simple is nice! Thanks!

Good writing is brief - this lens assignment was harder than a longer lens, but worth the extra effort. It inspired a new template for my latest collection of Coloring Books topic lenses: BUGS Coloring Books and Pages is the first coloring lens for this summer with many more on the way.

My lens is about adopting black cats. It was challenging (and fun) to choose five modules that could expand to fit all my content!

This is the shortest lens I've ever made and I really enjoyed creating it! This really inspired me to make more. Great idea for an assignment.

I've been wanting to make a series of waterfall lenses ever since we came back from "The Land Of Waterfalls" (Transylvania County in NC) a few weeks ago! I made the first one today for our 5 modules or less assignment.

The first idea that came to mind, the second lens to be finished, How to Host a Fancy Nancy Tea Party. I added an extra module for donations for FirstBooks, since the lens was inspired by a new Fancy Nancy Book.

Go away for a few days and look what happens! Great things! What better assignment than one that forces us to be focused? It helped that I've been wanting to write up this series of very successful cookbooks...so I've done three lenses in one evening for this week's assignment. I'll have to come back tomorrow to do some reading here.

(Robin, somehow the Crazy Plates one posted twice. I didn't hit the button twice, it just happened. Could you remove it, please?)

Woah! You are some FAST Squids! I thought I had gotten mine in fast and 40 are already up! Good for you all!

Being a Giant Squid, I could not resist the story of Attack of the Giant Jellyfish in Japan! Crazy!

I added a Caption Module, so please come add your creative input!

This has to be the shortest lens I've ever created. It hurt. Everyone knows how long winded I am.

This was good fun...a grisly tale of mass murder, ghosts and all round criminality...I did the story behind my local pub, The Ostrich in Colnbrook.

Perfect for a short but detailed lens :)

Added one (another in the works) on the inspiring song "Heal the World." We've been listening to Michael Jackson music and my youngest daughter has decided this is her new favorite song. Listen to the song and be inspired yourself to 'make it a better place for you and for me.'

I made my main content module the Google Map module - Places of the Heart - it took me longer than it should have because I found myself lingering midst the memories.

Yeah, I turned in my homework days early. This assignment was perfect to add to the 15 Easy to Grow Southern Wildflowers niche that I'm working on. I still have some space in the modules to add a couple of things later.

Oh Robin! I've got to tell you that I had MORE fun with this lens than I've had with ANY other lens that I've created. I tried to be good -- not too naughty -- and hope you LIKE it!!!

I would have made this one with a lot of Amazon Spotlight modules if I'd been left to my own devices, but as is is good too, I think: Thich Nhat Hanh calendars and planners...

Can we put in a donation module (like Bonnie) and not have that count towards the 5 as well?
