WHAT'S THE GIANT SQUIDS PROGRAM?

No, it's not a rock group (but it might as well be). It's the core group of movers and shakers at Squidoo. It's a gathering of influentials, the most dedicated lensmakers on Squidoo.

Here's how this whole thing started. One day at Squidoo Headquarters, Megan and Seth noticed something. They noticed that many of the best lenses are built by people who have a lot of lenses. There's an art to building a Squidoo page, and once you learn it, you can scale it. You do it over and over again, and your lenses get better and better. Sure, there are plenty of lensmasters with just 2 or 3 terrific lenses and no plans to make more, and we're happy to have them around. Quality and content are important. King, even. But the intersection of quality and quantity, that's a rare thing. It shows commitment, leadership, a willingness to experiment, and excellence.

So we wanted a way to reward those people, a way to help them do even more great work, and a way to learn from them in return. That's why we created the Giant Squids program. The Giant Squids program is now run by a handful of generous, creative, non-staff Squidoo enthusiasts. They are lensmasters who turned into leaders, and you're in very good hands with them.

It's a VIP program on Squidoo

For the best, most prolific lensmasters. Gotta have at least 50 terrific lenses in order to apply.

Who runs the Giant Squids program?

We do.

Seth and I (hi, I'm Megan) created the program and quickly found some wonderful lensmasters to part volunteer / part freelance for us, to help as champions and shepherds of the Giant Squids.

Meet Bonnie and Robin. They're here to help. They work with us to keep the program exciting, useful and growing!

A few good examples

of Giant Squid lenses

Here's just a handful of lenses created by Giant Squids. This is the kind of caliber of goodness we're looking for, in order to play in our VIP group. Think you can make 50 lenses this good? We know you can.
We're hooking up a whole new wave of Giants on December 31st, 2009.
