Gibson ES-175 - The Legendary Jazz Guitar

The Gibson ES-175 electric guitar is perhaps the most well-known jazz guitar in history. It was first sold in 1949 with a price tag of $175 (hence the 175 in the name). This guitar is similar to the L5, a guitar Gibson started making in 1922, but it has a laminate top and the ES-175 was the first guitar to feature Florentine "f-hole" cutaways in the body.

Along with the Tune-O-Matic bridge, the ES-175 was sold with humbuckers starting in 1957. This made it very popular with jazz guitarists trying to copy the sound Wes Montgomery made with his L5. Rock and roll musicians like Elvis Presley's guitarist, Scotty Moore, also favored this guitar for its rich sound.

Some of the vintage models of this guitar now sell for thousands of dollars.
