Gibson SG Electric Guitar - Moving On Without Les Paul
With sales of the Gibson Les Paul lagging in 1960 and 1961, the company needed to do something to keep up with the popular Fender Stratocaster. Their solution was the Gibson SG solid body guitar. With a very slender neck and almost no heel, Gibson earned the right to say it had the fastest neck in the world.
Since its introduction in 1961, the Gibson SG has been very popular with musicians. It seems the only person who didn't like it was Les Paul, who made sure his name would not be attached to it. Some famous guitarists who have played the SG include Eric Clapton, who used one while playing with Cream in the late 1960's. That same guitar would later end up in Todd Rundgren's hands, and he was known to play it in concert.
