Giclee Prints
Giclee ("zhee-clay") is an invented name for the process of printing fine art prints using an ink-jet printer. "Giclee" is derived from the French "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle" or "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray". The word is frequently seen online as giclee, simply because many people either don't know how or don't take the tine to type the first 'e' as an accented 'e', or in some cases, such as in squiddo pages, the accented 'e' is not accepted..
Properly made and cared for, giclee prints can last many years. Environmental testing has demonstrated that pigmented inks combined with the finest art papers, framed under glass, have a print permanence that exceeds 100 years. Giclee prints are typically much less expensive than an original painting, and in many cases are the best way to purchase an art piece for your home or office.
