Mark Preston - Oil Pastels
Mark Preston is a Richmond, Virginia, artist. Previously a graphic/web designer, in 2000 he began using oil pastels instead of oil paints due to a lack of studio space. He fell in love with their brilliant colors, texture, and the rapid nature in which he was able to complete drawings.
The compositions he chose in his early works were those of people in situations that captured the classically romantic side of Richmond; wine, dancing, horses, and cigars. Since 2003, he has expanded his subjects to incorporate impressionistic and cubist works.
