The Great Silent Grandmother Gathering
Or how to make a miracle standing stock still
We can join them too, if we want.
- The Great Silent Grandmother Gathering
- Here's a fact for you. Sharon Mehdi wrote a story for her granddaughter who wasn't even born yet. The story is called The Great Silent Grandmother Gathering.
Well, okay, that's two facts, and there's more. In fact, there's a whole slew of facts. Here they are, and not in bullet form either.

Give The Great Silent Grandmother Gathering all year long
Young or old, everyone who sees this book loves the story
And the message inside is everything I want to say about peace on earth, and doing unto others, and how we all, everywhere, can work and live together in, well, why not, pure joy.

Finding hope in the aftermath of madness
Warning: This is not Giddy's usual lighthearted view of the world
Hope in the aftermath of madness
Yesterday, 23-year-old college senior Cho Seung-Hui killed thirty-two people in Virginia. He was angry. He hated the world and his place in it.
Searchin' for understanding in what feels like an ever more violent world, Giddy found a pathway to hope and, possibly, to peace through the wisdom of Alice Walker.
The hope, as Walker shows us in her new book, We Are the Ones We Have Been Waiting For, and in this video by LillGandhi, is this: We--you and I--can be part of the solution. It is up to us. To find out how, watch the vid, then read the full post.

Maybe you stood under those stars, your little heart beatin' faster and faster, so it felt like it was swellin' up enough to burst, and all you wanted in all the world in that moment was to reach up and be able to touch them ...

- When you're smilin' ...
- Giddy Gabby was in line at Starbucks one cold, drizzly morning, rubbing her hands together to keep them warm. Gabby was crabby that day. She wanted her coffee, and she wanted it fast. She had a lot of work to do. The door opened, bringing a gust of wind and a voice full of

- So I did it myself--went around smiling every time I thought about it, for a whole day. It was so much fun I did it the next day, too. Here are a few facts from my smile diary.

- So I'm crossin' the street, shaking my shoulders loose of the job, cool breeze on my face, and I'm smilin' that Mona Lisa smile.
The street is packed solid. People hurrying, head down, a lot of 'em. Then there's this woman. Blonde, the expensive kind,

Did you try it?
Did you smile for a whole day?
Well, okay, so maybe you didn't paste a smile on all day long, but did you remember to smile at just about everyone you saw, more than you usually do?
What changed the day you smiled?
What happened the day you smiled? Did you win the lottery? Did feel you differently than the day before? Did someone smile back? What was new? What was old? What mattered. What did you find didn't matter nearly as much as it usually does?

This lens is so much fun! It reminds me of my old roommate- we used to try to come up with random info to share at the end of every day. We learned all kinds of stuff including what chemicals were used to make each color of fireworks!

Winter solstice AND Christmas, really, the one religiously and the other to be close to family and loved ones.
Then again, anyone who has a Christmas tree is doing a little of both, even if they don't realize it. :)
The more the merrier!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Adrianne. I hope you have plenty of family and friends with you this year, and if you don't, that you can feel the love of those far away while you make new friends close by.

I L-O-V-E- the holidays. For me it is all about good times with family and friends and thinking of others you can help. Sure, the holidays have been rough when I wasn't able to get back to my family, but it warmed my heart to speak with them and be with them in spirit. Hug someone who needs it!
