Gift Baskets Galore

In a sense, gift baskets have been around for ages. Even in biblical times. Since baskets were commonly used to carry goods, it was only natural they were used to present gifts. In ancient times, there were no handbags, no grocery bags, just baskets and buckets, which were put to good use, then given along with gifts to a recipient.

Today, we do just the opposite. We carry purses, have grocery bags, and all of the new conveniences. It is when we get, and empty a gift basket, that we put the basket to use. Filling it with decorative soaps and placing it in the bathroom, or re-gifting the basket filled with your own hand picked items.

More commonly used as gifts for Women, there are also some clever ways to give "baskets" to men as well. Just don't call them "Gift Baskets", call them, umm, Gift Tool Boxes. Yeah, there we go. Seriously, there are some nice gift baskets for Men as well.

For the old movie buff

Used Film Cans (Gold) Mega These are fun gifts to make for the film buffs. Get an old Film reel can, shown, then fill it with DVD's, Fudge, microwave popcorn bags, and a box or two of candy!

A get well basket can include: a soup bowl with an assortment of herbal teas, chicken soup, Ritz crackers a smiley sucker, and get well balloon.

A Thank You Basket can include: tickets to a show or comedy club; wine; home-made cookies and goodies

An "It's been six weeks" basket should be in a brown envelope or box wrapped in a brown grocery sack (depending on what you are going to put in it) It can include some romantic CD's, maybe a racy DVD, A bottle of wine, a coupon to watch the little bundle of joy for the night, and of course, condoms.

A gift to cheer someone should have a lot of happy face items. You can usually find happy face mugs at a dollar store, then find a bakery that makes Happy face cookies (or make your own for them!) Put in a Happy face note pad, you get the idea.

A comfort basket could contain a hand made blanket, or a purchased blanket, even a prayer shawl. A sympathy or other caring type of card, some food items, or a casserole.

Avid Readers Basket could contain a Best Selling Novel, a neck rest, some cookies and coffee or tea mix, and a hand made or purchased book mark.

You can be an Angel, whether it is the Christmas season or not. Times are lean for all of us, but for some, believe it or not, they are worse. If you want to do something that will make a real difference to someone, and make you feel GREAT at the same time, try this:

You can use a plain box, or put wrapping paper around it. Inside, place any or all of the following: non-perishables like noodles, rice, canned goods, rice, jars or cans of spaghetti sauce, a roll of summer sausage, some velveeta cheese, Cereal. You can also put in some toiletries, maybe some bath tissue, body wash, tissue, toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and the like.

Be sure to throw in some items that may not be entirely necessary but would sure make someone's day. Maybe a candle, a picture frame, a crossword puzzle and some pencils. Just something to make it personal.

Just before you deliver the box, put in some frozen items, meat, vegetables...mostly meat, that is what most people do not have enough of. Hamburger and Chicken are more than welcomed by people in need!

Now comes the fun part:
Choose who will get your gift from the heart. It can be someone you know, or it can be someone you know of. Perhaps there is an elderly person near your home, or a family you know is struggling.

Receiving "charity" is not easy for some people. Deliver your gift anonymously. Leave it on their porch. (If you want to see their reaction, just ring the door bell and get out of sight!

Unless you have been in a position where you could not properly feed your family, you have no idea of the difference you are making. It's thoughtful, selfless, giving, and wonderful.
