Presents For Our Favorite Cephalopod On His Special Day
You may have seen (or just come from) my lens, Set Up A Gift Registry On Squidoo, and if so, here's an example of what I was talking about. This is a gift registry I've made on behalf of my friend, the Birthday Squid, who'll be turning ... well, his age really isn't important. Let's just say it's a BIG birthday for this fast-growing squid.
So after thoroughly picking my buddy's brain (after all, Cephalopods exhibit relatively high intelligence compared to other invertebrates), I've put together this registry to make your birthday gift-buying easier. So browse through the items below and, while you're here, feel free to pick something up for yourself, for a squid-loving loved one or for a friend.
If you do purchase for THE Birthday Squid, be sure to use the Contact Me link on my profile or use the Guestbook below to let me know, so I can mark it as purchased.

Fly A Squid To The Moon
Ten!... Nine! ... Eight! ... Seven! ....
Birthday Squid has always wanted to travel into space, especially to the moon. And you can make that happen. Just fill in the information in the Orbitz module below and click to find the best rates on rocket ship fares and lunar lodging. Birthday Squid won't be needing a rental pod, as he hasn't learned to drive just yet.(...Six! ... Five! ... Four!...)
Anyone interested in contributing to a "Send Birthday Squid Into Space" gift pool, send me a message via the Contact Me link in my profile and let me know, including the amount you would like to give. I'll compile a list and contact everyone in time to book the trip if someone hasn't already done so.

Matchbox Mega Rig Squid Sub
Amazon Price: $59.99 (as of 12/28/2009)![]()
This is Birthday Squid's most wanted toy. The submarine is actually motorized and drives on or under the water. All the pieces combine and connect, so he could build more than 10 different boats and submarines, and even attach the motor to other Mega Rig sets he already has! This is perfect for the bathtub, the pool or the deep sea or coral reef.

With 8 arms, birthday squid can play with all of these at once.

PURCHASED! This item has already been selected as a gift for the birthday boy. But you can pick up one for yourself or a friend.

Birthday Squid's Portrait For The School Yearbook
Squidoo-Themed Gifts From Cafe Press
Birthday Squid selected these items too:
Squidoo Mug
Birthday Squid loves a hot drink first thing in the morning. In fact, sometimes he's got a cuppa joe in one hand, a steaming mug of cocoa in another, some Earl Grey in a third, a mug of hot cider in a fourth, some green tea in a fifth, and in his sixth through eighth some cappuccino. So mugs come in really handy.
Stuff to put on Squidoo Rectangle Magnet
As you may know, Birthday Squid has developed a bit of an addiction to Squidoo and is always jotting notes and collecting ads and ripping pages out of magazines as reminders for future lenses. Sticking them on the fridge or on his big, magnetic whiteboard is a great way not to lose track of them. So this magnet (or two or three or ten) would be very useful.
Baseball Jersey
Birthday Squid can just cut six more arm holes. No problem. He has to do this with all his shirts. And this is one he's had his eye on for a long time. He takes a size medium (for now, anyway).
Captain Squid Cap
Birthday Squid is planning to take up aqua golf, so he needs a spiffy white cap to round out his new set of duds to hit the fairways in style.
It's Squidoo Time Wall Clock
Squids need to know what time it is, too. Birthday Squid would love to have this for his office, where he creates all of his lenses.

Birthday Squid Took This One Himself
Squid Books
These are the books on Birthday Squid's Wish List
Tentacles!: Tales of the Giant Squid (Step into Reading)
The Birthday Squid loves a good children's story. And he's heard a lot about this one:
From Amazon's Product Description: "For centuries, sailors have handed down stories of the giant squid. They say this mysterious monster of the deep chases ships and battles whales. They say it can weigh up to 1,000 pounds and that its eyes can be as big as a human head! Are these stories fact or fantasy? Find out in this exciting beginning reader."
Animals of the Ocean, in Particular the Giant Squid (HOW)
This book--the third in a series of references written by scientists Dr. and Mr. Doris Haggis-on-Whey--is much more advanced than the one above. Animals of the Ocean "advances many heretofore unexplored discoveries and opinions, including squid dating dos and don'ts, why squid are not at all able to watch television in black and white, the ways in which people who don't know any better might think fish are not animals, the long-term effects of salt water on musical theater, and also the adventure of Gunther." (Amazon)
Outside and Inside Giant Squid (Outside and Inside (Walker & Company))
This book was intended for children, grades 4 through 8, but is appropriate for squids as well. This is a fascinating look at the humungous Architeuthis dux squid, which has never been seen alive. Researchers from around the world, including some from the Smithsonian, have learned about this giant's diet, anatomy and reproduction by studying dead specimens and the species' 500 smaller relatives, including the Birthday Squid himself. There are lots of neat photos, and scientific jargon is highlighted in red and further explained in the glossary.
Squids Will Be Squids (Picture Puffins)
This is an "oversized, energized, stylized, highly prized book of fables." (Amazon) Birthday Squid just loves the title alone.
Miscellanous Squid-Ish Gifts
That Birthday Squid would love....
Power Sentry S10063100206/17 General Purpose Power Multiplier (Black)
It was love at first sight for Birthday Squid. He just can't stop talking about this ... um ... whatever it is.
PURCHASED! This item has already been selected as a gift for the birthday boy. But you can pick up one for yourself or a friend.
Sterling Silver Squid Pendant, Inlaid w/ Pink Lab Opal with CZ,1 7/8" (48 mm) tall,
Boy squids wear jewelry too. And Birthday Squid really likes this pendant. He had one very similar to this, but unfortunately it was stolen by a 46-foot long Colossal Squid named Stella.
SquidSoap
Because squids need to wash their tentacles on a daily basis. Most of the reviews aren't so hot (well, there is a 5-star there), but Birthday Squid really wants to try it so....
Remember just before Birthday Squid was born? This is his egg case. Aaaaawww!!

Need A Gift Registry Lens?
If you're not a Squidoo member but would like a gift registry lens created for yourself or someone else, I'd be very happy to set one up for you. For details, use the "Contact Me" link on my profile page and let me know.
There will be no charge for the lens. Why? Because I can earn my fee in two ways:
1. Traffic to the lens and click-outs to products and other websites increases the lens's ranking, and I can make a piece of the Squidoo pooled revenue pie that way, and...
2. I get a commission from any sale made through a Squidoo affiliate or my own affiliate links.
OR, if you'd like to make a gift registry lens and keep the extra income yourself (or donate it to charity or gift it to someone), then click here to get started! Squidoo is free and fun.
There's a learning curve, but this is a great community with lots of experienced lensmasters ready and willing to help. You can visit the SquidU forums to ask questions at any time.

Set Up A Gift Registry On Squidoo

Am I Nuts?
WAIT ... Don't Answer That.
This lens was, in part, just for fun. But I also wanted to demonstrate that Squidoo lenses can be used for gift registries, among a gazillion--rather, make that infinite--number of uses, reasons and topics.
If you have a comment OTHER than to tell me I'm a bit off my rocker (which is true), please leave it here.

My Bio

I'm glad you've stopped by! So what's with the Ramkitten thing, you ask? Well, that's my trail name in the long-distance backpacking community (and now just about everywhere else), but you can call me Deb if you'd like.
Hiking the Appalachian Trail was the greatest experience of my life, and I have plans for more long-distance treks in the future. That's me in the photo, celebrating at the official end of the A.T., excited about the accomplishment, looking forward to being home again, but a little sad inside, too, because an amazing journey has come to an end. That was in 2000 but feels like yesterday, as I remember everything in such detail. That's often how it is when you're moving through life at no more than 3 miles per hour along the simplicity of a trail.
Anyhow, I'm originally from Rhode Island but now live in Flagstaff, Arizona with my mustached man, Steve, and beloved pooch, Sassafrass Tea (or Sassy, for short). I'm a Search & Rescue volunteer (love it!) and a writer of both fiction and non-. In late 2008, I began working on my own internet-based business, selling pre-equipped 24-hour packs for hikers and other outdoorsy folks. And, as a 40th birthday gift to myself, I quit my "real job" in favor of doing things I truly enjoy on a full-time basis.
Check out these great lenses...

- Hiking My Way to a Novel
On September 25th, 2000, I completed a six-month journey from one end of the Appalachian Trail to the other, a 2,175-mile walk from Georgia to Maine otherwise known as a thru-hike. Along the way, I embarked on another type of journey, a creative adve... view lens -
