The Problem with Gift Cards and Traditional Gifts


The dilemma of needing quick, cheap gifts lead to the explosion of gift card popularity a few years back. With the hectic life styles lived today, it is near impossible to find the time research a gift choice for every person on your list and then research competitive prices. However, do you really want your sister to know you could only afford $15 on her birthday gift? Gift cards are very useful, but the remain an impersonal gift option and often lead the gift recipient to think that the were a last-minute after-thought.

Another option, particularly around Valentine's Day, anniversaries, or other celebrations that require men to shop, is to stick to tried-and-true gifts. These would include traditional items such as flowers, chocolate, or diamonds. If you're completed void of any gift ideas, these three staples are often greeting with genuine smiles, but they still leave something to be desired. Flowers are lovely, however they will only last a few weeks (if you're lucky). Chocolates are nice, but unless you're splurging for specialty or experiential chocolate gifts, they are eaten quickly and are not all the memorable. Diamonds and fine jewelry make coveted gifts, but I know of very few people who have a budget that allows them to spend a few thousands of dollars on a single gift. What options are left for busy people?

Amazing Clubs
A bit pricey, but their gift-of-the-month clubs ensures that your gift recipient will remember you all year long. Our personal favorites are the Dinner and a Movie club as well as the Cheesecake of the Month club.

From our research, they have the lowest prices on name brand goods 99.9% of the time. Their selection is gigantic, which can be a bit overwhelming unless you know speciifcally what you are looking for.
Hammacher Schlemmer
A warning: their prices are high. However, we find each price a steal considering the quality of their items. Our favorite gifts can be be found in their electronics section - we've yet to see gadgets like theirs anywhere else.
Uncommon Goods
The name says it all, which is one of the primary reasons this is our favorite online shop. From romantic gifts, to cute gifts for her, hostess gifts, to perfect girls for your coworkers - you could easily complete all your shopping from this one site. Our highest recommendation.
Vat19
An odd shop, the be honest, but they have some very nice and very practical gifts. Their prices are also extremely reasonable.
Wrapables
Shopping at Wrapables reminds us of a treasure hunt - it may take some searching, but there are true gems to be found here. Their best gifts are geared more towards women - we particularly like their aromatherapy slippers.
