Dogs

One thing is certain, dog owners think dogs are great. A dog can be a great companion, but it can be more. Dogs can provide a source of humor. Ask anyone who owns one. Certainly, at some time in the past, they had a humorous event involving their dog.

Humorous Story Number One

Many years ago, we had a cocker spaniel names Chuck. Well, his real name was Sir Charles, but I called him Chuck because I was awakened by Charles and Diana's wedding trumpets at an unreasonable hour. So, I named my dog after the real Charles and called him Chuck.

Chuck traveled with us. One one trip we had an upstairs room in a motel with outdoor walks. As I walked with Chuck we passed an open door. Let me clarify that, I passed the open door while Chuck went right in. I had to pull him out by his leash. So, if yo have a fiftieth wedding anniversary and do not want uninvided spaniels, keep the door closed!

Dog to the Rescue

When we had just one child we had to travel. So, it was two adults, one infant, and a dog. We stopped at a roadside park to eat. After my daughter was taken our of her car seat and the food carried to the table, I was working on getting the dog out. The park appeared empty, except for us. There were no other vehicles. When it would have been impossible to get a baby back into the car and secured quickly, three men emerged from the restroom. They started moving in our direction. Then the dog came out of the car, and they simply stopped. Dogs offer a protection you cannot duplicate.

Dog Alarm

One afternoon I was across the street talking to a neighbor. A person came along and tried to sell us burglar alarms. It looked like a scam, especially when the person was insistent on entering our houses. I told the person I already had an alarm, and he said he would go inside and show me how his alarm was better. I suspected he was casing houses, and trying to determine what kind of alarm he might have to deal with when he returned. I decided he was not entering. My next comment was that I had two alarms. He looked confused and asked what I meant. My reply was that I had an electronic alarm and one with teeth called a dog, and my dog did not allow strangers to enter. He suddenly decided to move on.

Avoid Problems - Humerous Story Number Two

When traveling with a dog it is difficult at meal time. Dogs are unwelcome at most restaurants, even though they may be nicer than some people. So, be ready to buy through a take out window, and be prepared to eat in the vehicle or at a rest stop. But do avoid getting into trouble. You can just imagine what a temptation the aroma of all those burgers can be to a dog. Never allow the dog to get into the drive through window.

Getting Through - Humorous Dog Story Number Three

Once, when our children were very young, we went on a family trip. Of course we included the family dog. Upon arriving at our motel we loaded two small children into a double stroller, took the dog by the leash, and unloaded a couple of suit cases. When we opened the door to the motel we were in an extra wide, about one hundred feet, corridor. About half way through the corridor was a window being used as a bar, and there was a large gathering. It appeared the people drinking were members of a group, possibly having a meeting at the motel. They stood in a thin line, but the line stretched completely across the corridor. They saw us coming, yet made no attempt to open a path. Once I slowed and allowed the dog to move ahead, one of the men said, "It's a dog." Immediately, a opening in the group occurred, and we walked right through.

Great dog alarm! I have a dog alarm, too, and she doesn't even let a "known" person through the door unless she's sure I've invited them inside.
