Gifts For A Dramaturg

Ranked #22,796 in Entertainment, #277,963 overall

When I was in college I worked as a Dramaturg for 2 years. My duties consisted of writing a script analysis for the audience, evaluating rehearsals and helping the director by studying the plays.

It was a lot of fun and I always enjoyed explaining to people what I did. Here are some fun gifts for Dramaturgs, I wish I had one of those mugs!

Barnard Department of Theatre
Dramaturgy. Typically, students undertaking a dramaturgy thesis will be assigned during the spring of their junior year to a departmental show the following season, so that they know the play, director, and design team before the summer. The dramaturg is involved in all production meetings, works closely with the director in developing the show, and attends rehearsals in consultation with the director; the dramaturg's research is part of the production process, and is shared with the director, designers, and cast, as well as being part of the structure of the program.
The University of Iowa
In the first semester of enrollment, the student must complete a Plan of Study in consultation with the program head (who serves as the student's academic and thesis advisor). The Plan of Study should indicate all required and elective courses the student expects to take in completing the MFA. The Plan of Study should also indicate any graduate transfer credit to be counted towards the degree; whether or not transfer courses may substitute for department or program requirements; and any coursework the student must take in order to fill gaps in his/her previous academic preparation.
SUNY Stony Brook
The MFA in Dramaturgy at SBU fosters practical and theatrical approaches to the creation of new and innovative work for the theatre through an interdisciplinary, collaborative curriculum encompassing playwriting, directing, and emerging forms and technologies. Students will pursue a course of study that includes Dramaturgy, Directing, Playwriting, Literary Management, Collaborative Processes, Theory and Criticism, Dramatic Literature and Theatre History. This three-year program includes a core curriculum, production / lab work, the MFA Project, MFA Thesis, and a Professional Internship.
