2011: Gifts For Wine Lovers Guide

Gift Ideas for Wine Lovers

When shopping for the absolute best gifts for wine lovers, a wine enthusiast once told me; be unique.

Why be unique, because most wine connoisseurs already own the standard wine accessories such as wine racks, bottle openers and so on. If know for a fact their in need of the basics, then go that route.

Buying gifts for a wine lover can be tricky, so a few items on my list might seem obvious to some, but for others, it might be a gift idea you overlooked on his or her's last birthday, or the wine lovers get together last Christmas.

Wine Calendars

Scenic, trivia and wine recipes

Who doesn't need to know what day it is?

2011 wine calendars come in tons of different themes: scenic, trivia and wine recipes.

It doesn't matter if he or she is a wine novice or connoisseur, who doesn't enjoy viewing breathtaking pictures of the most beautiful vineyards in the world: Napa Valley and Sonoma in California to France and Italy in Europe?

Wine Cork Crafts & Gifts

Cages, bulletin boards, coaster kits and homemade wine cork crafts

I know it might sound silly to some, but there's something about those little things called corks that drive wine lovers crazy.

The cork gift you buy depends greatly on the wine lover, is he or she a novice and only attends the occasional wine tasting? If that's the case, a bulletin board or coaster set made of corks would be perfect.

What if you're buying for a wine enthusiast who drinks a ton of wine, but has no place for all those corks? If that's the case, he or she would greatly appreciate a cork cage.

Ok, what if you have run out of gift ideas and the wine lover you're buying for has everything, but enjoys homemade gifts. If that's the case, have you thought about buying recycled wine corks to make your own wine cork craft gift? Just a thought.

Personalized Wine Labels

Make any celebration, event, occasion or holiday personal

A personalized bottle of wine is something your mom, dad, girlfriend, boyfriend, colleague or friend will treasure forever.

Personalized wine labels are great for any occasion too: birthday, celebrations, parties, Fathers' Day, Mother's Day, Christmas, Valentines Day, Graduations and anniversaries.

Wine bottles are usually ready to be shipped as soon as you order, with the personalized labels inside for you to put on.

Wine Gift Baskets

White and red wine gifts baskets full of goodies

Wine lovers love gift baskets!

It's definitely not because wine gift baskets come loaded with their favorite vintage red or white wine, it's more of a gift to celebrate an event, and great for a small get together.

Cheese, crackers, wine flavored candies such as chocolate, smoked salmon and other gourmet treats usually are very common in most wine gift baskets.

Flowers.com also sells customized wine baskets

Wine Books

Cooking, buying guides, wine making and more

If the man or woman you're buying for bleeds red or white wine, chances are he or she has an extensive collection of wine books.

And don't worry, even if they have a huge selection books in their collection, books like buying guides etc are updated on a regular basis so you're bound to find something they don't have.

Paperback and hardback books are the most common, but if you're wine lover prefers saving a tree or two, go digital. If they have a reading device like a Kindle Reader, there are tons of wine eBooks that can be delivered almost instantly. Especially if you need a last minute gift.

Wine Magazines

Great gift for wine lovers and enthusiast

I've been in the company of a few wine enthusiasts in my day, and one thing I've noticed in their wine tasting areas are wine magazines, and a lot of them.

Until I did a little research, I had no idea how many types of wine magazines that were being published: wine tasting, travel, cellar designs, best cabernets, recipes etc.

And if you're on a budget, magazine subscriptions are typically pretty cheap.

Wine Cork Trivet

The instant pot holder for the kitchen

When I was making this list I wanted to think outside the box. There wasn't going to be a lot of wine racks, stoppers, glasses on my list because most people who love wine probably have drawers and cabinets full of wine accessories like that already.

I wanted to help you be a little different so when you delivered your gift, they would genuinely appreciate it. Well, I think the Wine Cork Trivet does that.

I know, I know, there's not much to it, but it's simple and straight to the point, and that's why I love it so much.

You can never have too many pot holders, so why not one that's unique and has a little character. The Wine Cork Trivet allows you, or the one receiving the gift, to put 8 of their favorite corks on a trivet base to make an instant pot holder.

Wine Accessories

Racks, stoppers, glasses, aerators and barware

Please forgive me, because I said I wasn't going to do this but after a little thought I felt it was a must to at least mention wine accesories.

Wine lovers don't inherit wine accessories from the "Wine Gods", they have to get them somewhere. Now, if you are buying a gift for a wine enthusiast I wouldn't buy a wine stopper or cheap wine rack. Trust me, it will get no use.

If he or she is a novice wine drinker and is just moving into a new apartment, his or her ex took everything in a divorce (it happens) or doesn't have the extra cash then they probably need a few things.

If any of the above is true, here are the basics: wine racks, wine stopper and pourer, wine aerator, wine glasses and last but not least a nice wine gift set.

Wine Games

That's right, games are not just for beer drinkers

Most people think that beer drinkers have the market cornered on alcohol related games. And not all wine games are for people to get drunk like many of the beer drinking games are.

Wine lovers tend to be a little more sophisticated then us beer drinkers. Getting drunk might happen, but most wine games are trivia and tasting related.

Another thing to keep in mind, and why a wine game would be great gift, wine drinkers tend to have small and quiet gatherings of 2-4 people.

Wine Travel

Experience gifts: Wine tasting, vineyard tours, dining, hiking, sailing and more

Would you like to buy the perfect gift for the wine lover in your life? I'm talking something unique, a once in a lifetime experience.

Experience Gifts from Cloud 9 Living offer numerous wine tasting experiences: dining, vineyard tours, hiking, sailing, wine tasting classes and so much more.

You might think that these types of experiences are only available in Napa Valley, but you would be wrong.

Obviously locations are limited, but it's nothing a short drive can't fix. Locations include Seattle and San Francisco, California to New York, Philadelphia and Chicago; just to name a few.

Home Decor

Artwork, photo frames, clocks, plaques, signs, candle holders and more

Some people love their passion or hobby so much they turn their home into a shrine, and wine lovers are no different.

And when they do it, they do it big. I know this all too well. My mother in law is a Wizard of Oz fanatic, so much that she once dedicated an entire room to this stuff. Every time I came over I was banished to this room because I wanted to watch sports. No matter where I looked I had the Wicked Witch of the West eyeballing me.

So if the man or woman you're buying a gift for loves wine so much that their willing to turn their home into a wine museum, home décor is definitely an option.

Some of the most popular gifts for wine lovers include clocks, plaques, signs, artwork and candle holders. See all wine related gifts in home décor.
