Gifts from the Past
Gifts from the past. All things retro, vintage, nostalgic, and representing "the good old days".
It doesn't have to be the Victorian era....maybe the fifties or sixties. There is some great modern art from early
in the 20th century. So, take a look. Give a gift that's more unique and fresh than what you've always given.
(This oven is a "mite" expensive gift but you CAN buy it. It's brand new just modeled in a retro style)

Fiestaware
No dishes are "happier" than Fiestaware. My grandmother gave me her Fiestaware and now I've added new pieces to it. They were originally produced starting in 1936 but were taken out of production in 1973. In 1985, they once again started being produced with some pieces identical to the original designs and others changed slightly. They are pure Art Deco in a rainbow of colors. They can be bought one piece at a time which makes it perfect for an inexpensive but great wedding gift. And the best thing is to collect different colors. When I set a take for six, nobody has the same colors of places or even silverware.
In 1986, five colors were offered: Rose (true pink), Black (slightly chocolate under bright light), Cobalt (dark navy), White (bright stark white), and Apricot (pale pinkish tan). New Fiesta in a total of 26 glaze colors, none of which matches exactly any of the thirteen colors of vintage Fiesta.
As of early 2008, many Fiesta shapes exist in a total of 39 color glazes. In addition to the first five glazes, the names of the new color glazes, in order of introduction, are: Yellow (pale custard/butter), Turquoise (more greenish than vintage Turquoise), Periwinkle (slightly lavenderish-blue), Sea Mist (pale mint green), Lilac (purple), Persimmon (brownish-orange), Sapphire (medium bright blue like faded denim),
Chartreuse (brighter and greener than vintage Chartreuse), Pearl Gray (warm light gray), Juniper (dark bluish-green), Cinnabar (burgundy), Sunflower (bright yellow), Plum (deep dark purple), Shamrock (bright deep green), Tangerine (bright orange), Scarlet (deep true red), Peacock (bright blue), Heather (dark reddish-purple), and Evergreen (dark bluish-green).
There are new colors and limited colors being announced every year.
As an indication of its influence, in 1988 Fiestaware was featured in a design exhibit at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York City.

- 50's identifying design elements
- Here's one of the quotes from the site "The 1950%u2032s furniture designs were highly influenced by Scandinavian and American designers. Movies and television shows helped last the new lamp of sleek furniture lines and splashes of color. Furniture upholstery reflected the excitement of a war-free crown with glaring colors: Lime green, lavender, yellow, pink, again circle colors coextensive as summery and black. "
- Barkcloth Hawaii
- A quote from the website "Our nubby bark cloth is an upholstery cloth reminescent of the retro fabrics that sat piled up high on the tables in the sewing department at the local five and dime. It's the type of fabric one would see on rattan furniture in tropical places like South Beach in Miami in the 40's and 50's. I know I was there. Abrasion testing for the upholstery bark cloth has indicated it to have met and passed the industry standard of 15,000 rub cycles. Use it for drapes, bedspreads and upholstering furniture."
