Homemade Ice Cream- Always In Season

Chill Out... Make Ice Cream
There is nothing like the delectable, creamy goodness of homemade ice cream. When I was a kid we made ice cream in an old, hand-cranked wooden freezer. Our favorite recipe was peach made with Mom's home-grown peaches. The ingredients were mixed and poured
into the metal canister of the ice cream maker. You filled the outer tub around
the canister with a mixture of ice and rock salt. You cranked the freezer till the mixture got very firm and your arm was ready to fall off. Now you can get that same heavenly taste in just thirty minutes, without all the effort. Allow me to introduce...

An Ice Cream Dream Machine
Lello 4080 Musso Lussino 1.5-Quart Ice Cream Maker, Stainless
Amazon Price: $669.99 (as of 06/01/2012)![]()
Amazon.com Review
Fully automatic and precisely controlled by a timer, this machine takes the trouble and guesswork out of making ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, gelato, and frozen drinks at home. Ingredients go into the bowl, the timer is set, two buttons are pressed and about 30 minutes later 1-1/2 quarts of a frozen confection are ready for consumption. Because the machine doesn't require its bowl to be frozen for hours in a refrigerator's freezer (like less expensive machines that only churn), it can immediately begin making another batch. If a batch becomes too hard the machine shuts off automatically. Not only does it work professionally it looks the part, as the housing, bowl, and paddle are made of stainless steel for sanitation and easy cleaning. The 100-watt machine measures 12 inches wide, 11 inches high, and 18 inches deep, and it weighs 38 pounds. Made it Italy, it carries a one-year warranty against defects. An instruction booklet with many recipes is included. --Fred Brack

Musso Lussino Reviews
From Amazon.com5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Marvelous, February 23, 2006
By Barbara G. H. Stewart
All the hype is true. The sensations are sinful, but totally legal. I'm still embarrassed that I spent that much money on a dessert maker, but I don't regret a penny of it. When I clean the machine, I only wish I had a tongue long enough to lap up every drop. I hide from the kids so I can lick the paddle blades alone.
"Normal" ice cream from this machine can send you into another realm, but Italian-style gellato will deliver you to a level of transcendence previously thought impossible here on earth. Slowly heat four cups of fresh cream in a large pot to just below a simmer (surface will start to shimmer). In a small pot, melt four ounces of best bittersweet chocolate on lowest heat. In a large, deep bowl, beat four fresh egg yolks on high speed and gradually add 2/3 cups sugar. Slowly pour the hot cream into the yolks and sugar. Mix in 1/2 cup of ground chocolate (Ghiardelli, for example). Add melted chocolate and return to large pot. Heat mixture to about 160 degrees, stirring frequently, and cook until it thickens (about fifteen or twenty minutes). Don't let it get above 165 degrees, or it might burn. Remove from heat, cool, and place in refrigerator for at least an hour. Pour into Musso, turn on machine, and prepare yourself. Tell only your closest, dearest loved ones.
5.0 out of 5 stars The king of home ice cream machines, January 9, 2008

Since you're reading this, you're probably wondering if it's worth the extra money compared to a lot of the other home machines on the market. I've had mine for 4 months now, and I can tell you that this is the King, the Cadillac, the Ultimate home ice cream machine. It's absolutely worth the extra money, and I'd recommend it to anyone that's serious about their ice cream.
5.0 out of 5 stars Be the butt of all the jokes, but watch them come back for more!, March 9, 2009
By M. Widner "Huckleberry" (Afghanistan)
Holy Cow this thing is expensive! Your friends and family will make fun of you. You will suffer buyers remorse if you have an average budget like most middle class.
Now the good part: You serve up that batch of goodness this little baby produces and the room goes quiet and no more jokes cause they ain't got time to talk when they are stuffing their face with your ice cream delight
If you love ice cream and tired of the old method of making it, I wager a hefty sum that you will not regret the internal organ you had to sell to afford this instrument of addiction.
Easy to use, Easy to clean, and like bar-b-que, this ice cream actually gets better in the freezer. (yes I know you don't freeze bar-b-que but you know what I mean).

- I grew up on home made ice cream from the cow I milked twice a day. We'd throw in the fruit from our trees, or berries... really yummy, and really wonderful memories!
