Need ideas for the person turning 50?
Turning 50 is considered a milestone birthday and generally people are gifted with all sorts of "over the hill" type gifts. They are funny, sometimes tacky, and meant to help the friend or relative celebrate their birthday with humor and not feel bad about getting older.
I'm contacted by customers on a regular basis looking for something unique to give their friend, relative, or colleague who is about to celebrate the "Big 5-0". They want something different and hopefully something that no one else has thought of.
Since I sell paper items and books, I can usually offer some really fun and unique ideas. I've created this lens to share some fun ideas for gifts that you might not have considered before.
I've included lists of female and male celebrities who have reached the milestone of the Big 5-0 this year in 2008. Perhaps that might also spark some fun ideas and remind your pal that even famous people reach this age.
An update to this lens now includes Celebrities turning 50 in 2009.
Retro items are such a fun idea and maybe should be combined with items of the exact year they were born along with items from when they reached 10, 20, 30, and 40.

Retro Gifts for the 50 Year Old in your life
Things I recommend to my customers for gifts...
MAGAZINE COVERS
Find a magazine cover from a 50 year old magazine such as The Saturday Evening Post or Life Magazine. Try to get the one closest to the date of the person's birth. These periodicals were published once per week so it is pretty easy to find one.
BACK ISSUE MAGAZINES
Purchase a whole magazine giving the birthday person a look into what was happening in the world during the month they were born. Life magazines, Look magazines, The Saturday Evening Post, Time, Collier's or even the TV Guide all were published weekly 50 years ago.
BOOKS PUBLISHED 50 YEARS AGO
Look for books published during the year of the person's birth. Particularly the number 1 best selling book of the year. For people turning 50 in 2008 the book would be Dr. Zhivago.
POPULAR MOVIES OF THAT YEAR
Find a VHS or DVD of a classic movie for the year of the person's birth. For 1958 that would be movies like:
Vertigo
South Pacific
The Blob
King Creole
