The birthday (or closely dated) magazine covers for celebrating the Big 5-0 seem a very thoughtful idea. ...I remember my mother-in-law getting a gag walking cane that had a horn on it. She enjoyed some great laughs with that one. :)

For 50 and 60 birthdays our family has started the tradition of giving 50 of something small to the birthday celebrant. - I got 50 of the following - blades of grass from the home of my childhood, disposable latex gloves, soda straws, kleenex, paper armadillos, etc. We had such fun with it. Innovate!
  • Comfortdoc Oct 30, 2010 @ 5:40 pm | delete
50th to SquidLike your Gifts for 5-0. Can't believe I have to worry about it this year. Nice to know that Bono, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Antonio Banderas and James Spader all turned 50 as well. I feel in good company.w
  • Susan52 Oct 16, 2010 @ 2:44 pm | delete
I don't remember turning 5-0. I remember turning 4-0, which was ten years longer ago, so how could that be? I guess I put it out of my mind. Or maybe forgetfulness is a big part of the 5-0's, you suppose? Anyway, I would have appreciated any of these great gifts on your suggested list. I think I'd choose Play-Doh for myself. Love the lens! Blessed!
  • WriterBuzz Oct 5, 2010 @ 11:45 pm | delete
I just found your lens. I like it a lot. Thanks for building it. Gave you a thumbs up.

  • CCGAL Sep 26, 2010 @ 10:23 am | delete
What a wonderful lens this is - very useful content, colorful, and some great ideas. I enoyed it tremendously!

When my cousin turned 50, I rented the Moose lodge and threw a 50's sock-hop party for her. We made a fake cake with 50 emergency candles on it, and the big surprise was we all lined up to light her candles: each person told her something they loved about her or shared a memory, and then let a candle. Finally, when all 50 candles were lit and burning bright, we showed her a big fake Fire Permit and handed her a tiny little fire extinguisher to help her blow out the candles. I think we all laughed until our sides hurt. It was a LOT of fun.
  • Pukeko Sep 22, 2010 @ 11:28 pm | delete
Great Ideas for the 5-0. But don't let my hubby see them. I am thinking bigger - I want a trip to Tahiti when I turn 50 :)

My husband and I topped the 50 year mark a few years ago. It wasn't as bad as I thought but my brother-in-law had a bit of trouble with it. My husband felt it was his duty to harrass him. He survived it...barely.
    Thanks for sharing

  • Mickie_G Jul 5, 2010 @ 9:07 am | delete
Love this lens. I used to say, "I am over 50, so please excuse me!" I will have to quit saying that as I just passed out of that decade! Oh woe is me.
Blessed by a Squid Angel today.

  • theraggededge Jan 26, 2010 @ 5:09 am | delete
51 last birthday. Personally I want to be reminded of how young I am and what I'm going to be when I grow up. Sooo... my dream birthday gift would be (my son just suggested a headstone - thanks A.) a walking trip in Nepal, pony trekking in the Lake District, a housekeeper or a new Fiat 500 Abarth :-)
  • Sylvestermouse Jan 1, 2010 @ 10:25 am | delete
Yes, you are correct, I will be turning 50 in 2010. I thought for a moment you were offering me Colin Firth for my birthday:) Shucks, I guess I will have to settle for play-doh. Perhaps I will watch Pride & Prejudice again (for the 50th time)

Bev Very nice lens and good ideas for presents. People are obsessed about getting round numbers but my philosophy is that each age has his beauty. Personally I don't blame Mother Nature, and I try to be positive and find the beauty of each age as came along.
    Fav 5*

Remember that a fifty year old won't remember things from the year they were born, but old magazines, books or toys from when they were say 10 years old might bring back wonderful memories. Also we remember early TV shows, again pay attention to the dates...I wasn't watching much TV till I was 10 or so.
    A WONDERFUL lense...thanks!
