2012: Best Gifts For Techies

Gift Ideas For Techies

When shopping for gifts for techies, it basically comes down to knowing what the hottest and most popular electronic and computer gadgets on the market are.

Although it helps knowing what's hot, it's just not that easy buying the latest tech gadget, because techies and computer geeks pride themselves on being unique, and being one step ahead of the general public.

But in the Internet age, it's almost impossible to buy a gift that most techies don't already know about (and everybody else too). Basically, you're not going to surprise a true techie unless you have access to promotional items or first run products.

So what do you do? Join the crowd!

The best gadgets are very popular and most techies know this. I hope to point you in the right direction to find the perfect gift for the geek in your life. Chances are if you were a techie, you wouldn't be doing a Google search for "gifts for techies" in the first place. If that's the case, you're in the right place.

Apple Products

Apple iPad 2 Tablet

type=textOk, before I get started let's get the big boy out of the way right now. When I say big boy, I'm talking about the one and only Apple iPad 2 Tablet.

Apple dominates the techie world, and for a good reason - it's the best. The Apple iPad 2 tablet is the latest and greatest Apple iPad on the market. If he or she already has an iPad 2, sift through the insane amount of accessories Apple sells.

Honorable mention: Apple MacBook Pro

Apple iPod Touch 8GB

4th Generation

type=textActually, the 4th Generation Apple iPod Touch 8GB should have been first on my list, because it's hands down the number one gift for techies - kids, men and women.

The 8GB is the most popular because of its price, but the iPod touch also comes in 32 GB and 64GB.

Honorable mention: 4th Generation Apple iPod touch 32GB

The Kindle Fire

from Amazon

type=textAmazon is the biggest retail store on the Internet, and the Kindle Fire is the number one selling electronic gadget for techies.

The Kindle is a eReader, so it's mainly known for being able to download books, but it's so much more than that (games, apps, movies, magazines and of course books).

So if an Apple iPad is a little out of your budget, the Kindle Fire is a GREAT alternative.

Honorable mention: Kindle Touch

Roku 2

Streaming Player

type=textAll you need is an high speed internet connection and a TV - and you'll be streaming high definition movies and games in no time.

The Roku 2 also offers photo and video sharing on Facebook, news channels, sports packages, unlimited music and of course - its bread and butter - thousands of movies.

Honorable mention: Apple TV

Portable External Hard Drives

Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 1 TB Portable External Hard Drive

The Western Digital My Passport Essential 1 TB Portable External Hard Drive is most popular external hard drive sold online today.

One the great things about giving external hard drives as gifts, the receiver can never have enough and will NEVER complain. This particular model is 1 terabyte (TB), which is a ton of memory. Techies love to hoard information - movies, music, software and more. Eventually hard drives get full, so the more the better.

Honorable mention: Western Digital WD Elements 2 TB Desktop External Hard Drive

Amazon Gift Card

When all else fails, let them buy it. On your dime of course

I don't envy you, because if you're buying a gift for a techie, and you don't have a clue what the hell you're looking at, it can be confusing.

When all else fails, let them do the dirty work. The only reason I mention buying a gift card like the one from Amazon is because tech gifts can get expensive.

Amazon's gift card allows you to put up to $5000 dollars on it; then email it, print it or even post it on their Facebook account.
