We have shared the secret. Shhhh....don't tell the smaller kids.
We are sad because part of the Christmas magic was the visit from Santa. Now that he is older, we spend more time talking about what Christmas really means and the biggest gift of all. It's a trade-off because we can share the Christmas story while still enjoying the gift giving. He is a very giving child so now that he is in on the secret, he is having a very good time searching for great gifts for others.
He also has a very extensive list that is posted here. At 10, he does not really like toys so his wishes are more expensive than some of the things we would have purchased. We certainly can't afford everything and some of the things he wants are just not going to happen. There is no way that he will get a smart phone. We told him he could get one if he could pay for the service. The look like "I have to get a job" was priceless.
Our favorite family movie
"You'll shoot your eye out", is what we are saying this year as we go from store to store that stocks this item. He is tired of my story about my brother shooting at the swing set and the BB that richotshayed and hit next to my eye. We are having fun with the line from the movie.
"The list"
Couldn't resist scanning his list for this page.

In case you can't read it, he wants:
1. Laptop - We already purchased this item and he is using it. As a homeschooler, he needs access to the online items required for his studies. We have one other computer that I use and am not willing to share (Squidooaholic).
2. DSI.xl Nintendo - probably not. He has several handheld games and this is just not necessary.
3. SOX (Socks) - What would Christmas be without socks. This is a joke in our family and one of the scenes from "A Christmas Story" that we all treasure.
4. Just Dance 2 for the Wii.
5. Six dollars (He He) - I think that the money might find it's way into the stocking.
6, 7, and 8. iPad, iPad Touch, Smart phone - no way
9. RC Helicopter
10. BB Gun
11. Cup Stacker
"The list" page 2

On page one he starts out by saying to ask Grandpa about the BB Gun. See picture (misspelled) shows a baseball field. Everything that he write to us ends with "I love you".
This is already under the bed
For every sale from Amazon on this page, Squidoo donates $1 to Room to Read
There are many choices for Helicopters
This is the helicopter we purchased
It is also under the bed
Just Dance 2
This is still in the maybe stage
Not all gifts come from the list
The other three are maybe's too but these are things that interest him and educational. We tend to buy the more educational toys that teach something and he loves these types of things.
The laptop we bought
This was on the list but we had already decided that it was necessary
Cup Stacker
Another maybe
Two great videos about the speed stackers
The iPad
I may make my own list and ask Santa for one of these
Merry Christmas!
What are you getting for the Tweens in your life?
If you have other suggestions for a tween boy, I would love to hear them. After all, his birthday is in January and this starts all over again.

- Gosh, I have one the same age, and, you guessed it: very similar list. I can't believe you're going to allow the BB gun. We caved on the smart phone that is a version of Nintendo. This Christmas I'm cashing in my Amex points for an iPod Touch for him, and he's getting iTunes $. We got off cheap this year!!

- My boys are all grown up now, but I remember their Christmas Lists well, a motor bike, a TV in their room, computer, I liked to always get them gifts for outdoors, as they had a tendency to like to many indoor things, and I use to like them to have a bit of fresh air. I remember when I bought the motor bike for the both of them to use, their friends loved it and it was great because we lived on a 40 acre property, it gave them many new places to ride it. The bike taught my kids how to pull a bike apart, and then put it back together, they and their friends spent hours enjoying this. Loved the suggestions, your son sounds the typical boy

- Loved your suggestions. My sons are grown now and I have granddaughters to buy for, but I enjoyed those days of buying for boys. (And yes my sons had the Red Ryder BB gun too. In fact we still have it tucked into the back of the closet.)

- Amazing how the 10-year-old 'wish list' has changed from the days my kids were 10. :) Technology has changed the world. My grandsons are now 14, 12 and 9 and I'm continually surprised at the gifts they have gotten... and the ones they now want. Thanks for sharing this cute idea. Congrats on LotD.

- Nothing much more expensive gift wise than having a gadgetaholic in the family. I have four little girls and they all have iPods. We already have two computers for the school aged ones and am probably going to need two more in the next couple of years. I've noticed that our Education Department over here likes Flash based activities so if it's the same over there I recommend and decently powered laptop to be able to run those as some can be quite CPU intensive.
