Using Technology for Effective Alumni Outreach and Fundraising
Ranked #2,495 in Nonprofits, #482,315 overall
New and traditional technologies for alumni outreach and fundraising
Web 2.0 tools and more traditional technologies can be used by nonprofits to build community among its interested constituents and raise money. This lens will highlight some of these tools and how they may be used by nonprofits.
There are many organizations and individuals already using these tools effectively; this lens will also offer links to examples, case studies, and best practices that have been proven by others.
I hope that others will be able to use this lens to learn from these examples and share their own best practices as well.
This lens will have a bit of a focus on nonprofit camps, as that is where my focus is at the Grinspoon Institute for Jewish Philanthropy. However, I believe most nonprofits will be able to learn from this content as well.

Are you on Twitter?
See the link below for my twitter feed
Twitter is a great tool for nonprofits to listen to their constituents. If a nonprofit can gather the usernames of it's alumni and other constituents on Twitter, they can follow their tweets (the messages they post on Twitter) to better understand what is important to them. Nonprofts can also use www.summize.com to search for key terms associated with their cause to see who else is out there talking about it.
The first step is to start an account at www.twitter.com. Then listen. Finally, if the nonprofit has the time and finds a number of interested constituents on Twitter, it can be used as one more channel for building community and communication.
