Gimp Bevel Text Tutorial

Learn how to add a bevel text effect in Gimp

1. Open Gimp and type in some text in whatever color and font you want. I'm using a fairly thick font (arfmoochikncheez) so the bevel will show up better.

2. Go to Filters- Decor- Add Bevel. I changed the thickness to 3, but it just depends on how much of a bevel you want. Then uncheck 'work on copy.' Ta da!

Gimp Glowing Text Tutorial

Learn how to make a glowing text effect in Gimp

1. Open up GIMP, and put in your desired text on your image.

2. Click layer, then click on duplicate layer.
3. Now click on blur, then Gaussian blur. This window will pop up:

4. Change the blur radius around, I recommend to change it around to four-seven, I decided to use four.

5. Go to layers, merge down, so those two layers will be merged together.
6. Press filters, Light and Shadow, then click 'Drop Shadow'. This window will come up:

7. Change both the offset's to one, blur radius to zero, color to white or keep it to black or something, and opacity to one hundred.

Computers for Graphic Design

I personally use an HP Pavilion desktop for all my computing needs because it has enough storage and RAM to run intense image editing software such as GIMP. These are my computer recommendations for a web designer. Many designers also swear by Apple computers, which I have listed below as well.

Mostly I use Gimp for editing pictures. Crop, resize, that kind of thing. I'd love to learn more though.

You make it look so easy :) I have had Gimp installed on my PC for ages but can hardly ever figure out how to do anything with it. More often than not I end up using Paint.NET
