Girl Guide Biscuit Season Is Finally Here!

Yummy! That's the first word that comes to mind when I think about Girl Guide Biscuits. Hard to believe these popular iconic biscuits are only sold one time per year. And that time is now. March 20, 2011 started this year's annual biscuit sales season. So, if you see Girl Guides be sure to help support this awesome organization in its annual fundraiser and get rewarded for your good deed with some delicious biscuits.

If you happen to live in Whangaparaoa and would like to get them from my daughter Sarah (she is a Guide this year), please Email Sarah Now with the items you want and contact information so Sarah can get back to you..

Girl Guides Statement of Purpose

We enable girls and young women to reach their potential and make a difference in the world.

Girl Guide Biscuits Are Delicious!

And procedes from biscuit sales support the efforts of guides helping to shape the women of the future!

Girl Guide Biscuits

Even more important than their great taste, Girl Guide biscuits support the Girl Guides of New Zealand. Each year this major fundraiser of Girl Guide Biscuits sales supports Guides New Zealand, and brings smiles to the faces of so many.

Chocolate or Plain?

Which is your favorite Girl Guide Biscuit?

Unlike the Girl Scout Cookies of America, Girl Guide biscuits only come in two delicious flavors (although the chocolate comes in two sizes, regular and mini). Which is your favorite - the traditional Kiwi Girl Guide biscuit - yummy! or do you prefer the chocolate coated variety?

I'm a traditionalist, give me plain please

ferginarg says:

I would have to choose plain since chocolate ones weren't around when I was young oh so many years ago, having said that I wouldn't say no to trying chocolate ones! haha

Chocolate!

John Pope 77 says:

Nicholas Low says:

Chocolate is the best Plain is great but Chocolate is still 1st place!

Pukeko says:

The plain are great, but everything tastes better with chocolate!

Want Even More Options - Use the Biscuits in Recipes

plain girl guide biscuitsThe Girl Guides New Zealand official website features a full page of recipes utilizing Girl Guide Biscuits. There are so many delicious recipes. We have cut down our favorite recipe and altered the recipe for stove top (we don't microwave). Here it is:

Jaffa Truffles
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • finely grated zest of 1/4 orange
  • 2 Tbs orange juice
  • 10 Choc Girl Guide biscuits
  • 25g butter
  • 1/4 cup desiccated coconut
  • extra coconut for finishing

Mix the raisins, orange zest and orange juice in a small bowl. Leave to stand while you prepare remaining ingredients.

Crush the biscuits in a food processor until finely crumbed.

Melt the butter, then add the crumbs, stir to mix while continuing to heat for about 5 minutes on the stove top. Then transfer back to the food processor, add the raisins and juice and process until well mixed. Stir in the coconut, then refrigerate mixture for about an hour. Form heaped teaspoonfuls into balls and roll in coconut. Refrigerate until required.

Great Lens - I was a Girl Guide years ago in Zimbabwe (it was then known as Rhodesia) - we had the greatest fun; but no Girl Guide biscuits! The recipe sounds delicious, I will add it my To Make List - thanks. (And I agree that microwaves are out!)
