Girls Fastpitch Softball
Girls fastpitch softball practices shouldn't be just an endless repetition of skill-building drills. In order to keep the players interested, a good coach not only cycles the drills but intersperses them with fun games that continue to improve players' abilities while instilling a competitive spirit among teammates.
Girls Fastpitch Softball Game #1
For the first game you will need a stable stool, a large stuffed toy, and a backstop or net. Start by dividing your team into 2 groups, either by numbering them off or choosing captains to select their teams.
To set up the game, place the stuffed toy on the stool which should be straddling first base. Next, set up the net behind the toy target.
To begin the game, have the 2 groups stand in a line between second and third base where the shortstop usually stands. Hit a grounder towards the first player on the first team. If she can field the ball properly, throw it towards first base and knock the stuffed toy from the stool, her team earns a point.
Continue batting grounders to each successive player, and once each player has had a turn or two the winning team is the one with the most points.
Variations of the game include starting the girls at second base instead of shortstop or setting up the stuffed toy on second base and having the girls throw from the outfield.

Girls Fastpitch Softball Game #2
Another game to round out a girls fastpitch softball practice is this one, which helps the girls develop fast and accurate throwing skills and work on their hustle when running the bases. This game also begins with the team divided into 2 groups. Team one is on offense, standing in a line behind home plate and team two is on defense, with all but one player lined up behind third base, and one player at second.
This game also requires a bit of set up.
Take three balls and set them up at an even distance between third base and halfway to home plate.
You will also need a bucket at second base to collect the balls. When the coach yells "go", the girl playing offense at home plate starts running towards first base. The girl playing defense on third base must run to the first ball, throw it to the girl at second, run to the second, throw it, run to the third and throw that one as well.
The girl on second must successfully catch and drop each ball in the bucket before the girl from team one reaches second base. If all three balls hit the bucket before the offense players makes it there, the defense scores a point.
If the runner reaches the second base before all three balls do, then the offense scores a point.
Continue playing until one team reaches ten points, and becomes the winner. Make sure to offer a small reward for either game, such as not having to carry equipment or getting to bat first in the next team scrimmage.
