I'm a Girl, and Even I Think Girls' Games Suck!
As a feminist and a female gamer, I have a lot of the typical strong opinions you'd expect out of any other gamer - Nintendo is awesome, Jack Thompson is just some glory hound trying to latch onto video games like some blood-sucking tick, and so on.
I also hate, hate, HATE so-called "Video Games For Girls".
I didn't need "Girly Games" when I was younger to get my attention -- I latched onto Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario just like any other gamer. Now, sure, I like the brighter-colored fare like Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet and Clank, but those aren't made for girls; they're made for EVERYBODY! They're brightly-colored, fast-paced, interesting, challenging, and just plain fun.
Most things labeled "Girls Games", on the other hand, are just slap-on-the-ingredients cooking simulators, cutesy animal games I outgrew around the time I realized Putt-Putt Goes to the Zoo was a baby's game, or just plain patronizing "Barbie Dress-Up" sims. These games aren't fun or interesting, and they might even be turning girls OFF to video games because of their shoddy quality!
(Besides this, when was the last time you saw a "Girls Game" that wasn't bundled with 5-10 other pieces of crap?)
By playing these low-quality games, girls are missing out on the crucial hand-eye coordination skills that games encourage, not to mention general strategy, improved general reflexes, and with the new generation of video games, the important social aspects of video gaming are also coming to light!
Don't deprive your daughters of these great games and talents by buying them "Girls' Games" -- Give 'em the real thing!
Top Five Girls' Games I Hate
- Barbie Fashion Games! If you want to dress dolls up, get some actual dolls! These shouldn't even QUALIFY as games -- all they appear to be is "Slap clothes on, watch Barbie walk around, print out clothes!" Honestly, ALL Barbie video games ought to be slapped under this label.
- Waitress Games! You heard me - Diner Dash, Wedding Dash, Cake Mania... all this stuff is just reinforcing the stereotypes that women should run around doing all the "domestic" type of work!
- Pony Games! Yes, yes, we get it. Girls Love Ponies. This doesn't mean you need to make entire games centered around pony this and pony that and pony horse adventures. Whatever happened to My Little Pony for Dungeons and Dragons, huh? If these were decent games in and of themselves, I might complain less...
- Veterinarian Games! You don't need to pigeonhole little girls into stereotypical jobs... we can take a little more action in our lives!
- My Perfect Wedding!... do I even have to say it?

By the way, if you've ever played Cooking Mama, you'd realize that the series actually has some educational value to it in addition to being a fun game, which is far better than I can say for most girly games.

- Lol, go back to your shed got owned, and I'm a guy who agrees I would never buy my niece or little sister those retarded girly games, I'm raising frag and tag ladies over here cause only the toughest survive, however if they asked for something frilly and pink in a video game I'd allow it, cause ladies need both sides of the spectrum at times.
