Girl's Monkey Cakes / Monkey Cakes for Girls

While the girl's monkey themed cake shown above is beautiful, it is impossible to make without knowing how to make fondant. If you want to learn how to use fondant, I siggest checking out the book: "Celebrate With Fondant".

If you do know how to decorate cakes with fondant, then we can start with the cake shown above. What you should do first, is bake 3 to 4 circular cakes, and stack them, with a little bit of filling in the middle.

Then, stick 5 wooden dows through the cake, from top to bottom, in order to support the cake. Without these, the cake layers would slowly slide off, and collapse.

Next, dirty ice the cake. Don't worry about how it looks, because you'll soon be covering it in fondant.

Next, cover the cake in brown fondant, and flatten out all of the fondant creases. Then, create circular designs, like the ones shown above, with fondant shape cutters, and apply them to the cake.

Lastly, we have to create the monkey fro the top of the cake. In order to do this, make the basic shape of the monkey out of rice krispies. Then cover it in brown fondant. Next, finish the facial details with gum paste.

You are now done with your monkey themed girls birthday cake!

This fondant monkey birthday cake is perfect for beginner cake decorators. The only time you need to use fondant is to shape the monkeys. You need a little bit of artistic talent, and lot of patience.

The first step towards making the monkey cake for girls is baking 4 square sheet cakes. You should then stack them on top of each other, and make some type of filling, even if it is just icing, to put between each new layer. After this, add wooden dows for support, so that the cake doesn't topple.

Now, cover the cake in a light green icing. Make sure that the icing stays very smooth, and elegant. You can also choose to just use green fondant, which is much easier to make smooth than icing.

Finally, make monkey out of fondant like shown above. These will take time, but should end up looking very attractive, and pretty in the end.
