Girls Just Want to Have Fun - DVD Review
Ranked #5,215 in Entertainment, #64,752 overall
And the Theme Song - Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.
Below you will find a preview and review of Girls Just Want to Have Fun, as well as an update on cast members.
My poor father was forced to watch Girls Just Want to Have Fun many times on VHS. My friend, Marnie, and I would rent it every time we had the chance. We would watch it over and over again. Jeff was such a hottie. He seems young to me now, but he is still gentle on the eyes and timeless.
I love this one soooo much that I own the DVD. If you are a chick and an 80s fan, you are sure to love this.
Of course most of the girls loved Cyndi Lauper. My girlfriends and I all did, anyway. She was wild, crazy, fun, and oh so colorful.
This is where I learned, "Tune in Tokyo. Tune in Tokyo." HA!

A Short Rundown of
Girls Just Want to Have Fun
Janey is an Army brat. She's a new girl in a new school. She loves music and gymnastics but she really loves to dance. She is obsessed with a popular show called Dance TV.
Janey finds a friend in the crazy, life is a roller coaster that she loves, Lynne. Together they make it their goal to become the next Dance TV dancers even though Janey's parents tell her, "No way young lady!"
What was it about Girls Just Want to Have Fun
that I Loved so Much
This movie came out when I was in eighth grade. It was a pivotal movie for me because I would later try out for cheerleader. I believe it was mainly due to watching this movie over and over again.
I loved this movie because I associated with Janey. My mother was pretty strict when we were growing up. We didn't have cable nor were we allowed to watch it. We didn't have a VCR until 1984. We must have gotten it around the same time this movie hit VHS.
When my mother would go to our cabin in Ashford on the weekends I would always stay at home with my dad. My younger sister usually went with mom to the cabin. When my mother was home we only got to watch G movies. We watched a lot of stuff like Swiss Family Robinson and Grizzly Adams. When mom was gone my dad would take me and a girlfriend to the video store on Friday night and he would let us rent PG. I rented this movie over and over and over again. My dad would always try to talk us into a different movie, but we usually went home with Girls Just Want to Have Fun.
Lynne Stone -the wild crazy rocker girl- reminded me of my girlfriend, Jonel. Jonel was the one that was able to get me out of my box. She was a couple of years older than me, had cable, and her mother worked. We hung out at her house a lot when her mother wasn't home. Jonel and I watched a lot of MTV. My mother wasn't very enthusiastic about me hanging out over there without Jonels' mother being home, so Mom usually didn't even know when I was there. I went to the "library" a lot.
I think my mother was more worried about Jonels' twin brother John. Boy was she wrong. Ta heee heee.
These were the years that brought me into my own. They were the years that I went from wallflower to flower, tomboy to kind of cute. Hanging out with Jonel -an older cool, pretty girl- made me cool just by association. We had so many fun times.
Girls Just Want to Have Fun
My Favorite Scene
The rich witch, Natalie, is having a coming out party. Natalie is trying to win the Dance TV contest. Her father buys everything, including contests. Natalie is also trying to steal Jeff from Janey, and Janey hasn't even had a real chance with Jeff yet.
Lynn, Janey, and her friends get a hold of an invitation, have massive numbers printed and pass them out all over town to punk rockers and female body builders.
A whole bunch of punk's crash the party and start rocking out to "Wake up the Neighborhood" as they trash the place trying to clear the floor to make way for dancing. The female body builders come in following the punk rockers and literally pick furniture up -people still on it- moving the pieces and people up against the wall.
