Great Information on the Girl Scouts! Thanks for sharing! I think it is very important to keep our youth engaged in things they enjoy to keep our retention numbers up!

My current lens (I am new to this) has been set up to support the Military & Scouting through Operation Popcorn!

I was a girl scout from Brownie up to serving as a camp counselor in college. :-) Such great memories and life skills. I credit my girl scout camping days as a great asset in living abroad.

If you are looking for a new link for the Arkansas History Patch Program, go to www.ramblingheights.freehomepage.com. You can find a link there under the badge/patch programs tab. That was my daughter's Gold Award project! ;)

I was recently horrified to hear the father of two Girl Scouts say that his two kids were not allowed to refer to him as Dad or father at Girl Scout activities. That they were to refer to him as SAM (significant adult male). What kind of policy is this? If this organization is really supporting this policy, and enforcing it, I can promise this is headed for the six o'clock news. I am appalled, and very offended by this revelation, and shall throw all the means I have at my disposal into bringing this policy to light, and the Boy Scout scandals will pale in comparison. Any organization for kids that teaches kids to disrespect their parents like this needs to be banned.
  • Susie P. Jun 9, 2010 @ 9:58 am | delete
It's not a Girl Scout policy. Relax.

I'm looking for a scuba IP. I found one awhile back but the councils must have merged. Does anyone know of a council that now carries this IP?
  • lemonsqueezy Mar 2, 2010 @ 9:10 am | delete
I did a search and found this on a website.

The Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital has a troop developed "Explore Scuba" IPA which may be available to others outside
the council. The link to the requirements is: http://www.gscalumet.org/Assets/resources/forms/patches/Scuba.pdf IPAS can be ordered from Patty Dye - phdye84@aol.com for $2.00 apiece. Again, this is not strictly a "council's own" but it couldn't hurt to contact Patty.

I found this today, while searching for another IP badge. I hope it helps you earn your scuba IP.

We have earned Council's Own badges from all over the country. Some are very location specific, but most can be adapted to your area without much trouble at all!

Most councils will allow girls from any council to earn their awards. It's a good idea to contact them to make sure. Our girls have earned awards from many other councils. (Including the Canoe Crusaders and Marvelous Mysteries from yours) They really enjoy the counci's own; they just seem to be a bit more fun.

Just wondering if you can earn council own badges from ANY council in any state. We are with Black Diamond Council out of WV. My daughter found some of the others states very interesting. Is it possible for her to earn these as well? Thanks!!!

Good question. You contact the council for the particular badge (which is why I have listed the badges underneath their sponsoring council) and order the badge through the council. [in reply to yogi bear]
