Beijing 2008 Opening Ceremony
How Does London Follow That?
London has another four years to plan the 2012 games and, after observing this opening ceremony, plan their own opening ceremony. The question now has to be asked. Can we compete? I really believe that we are unable, as a nation, to come up with anything to equal or better this. We do not have the resources, the history, the costume and the color to produce anything like this.
As a multiculural nation - whatever that is supposed to mean - I believe that we are unlikely to be able to produce anything that will be memorable or anything like the scale.
Do you really think that we can compete?

Return the Olympics to Sport
While the opening ceremony was a feast of visual spectacle it really had little if anything to do with sport.
I confess that I really enjoyed the sights and sounds and was stirred by the amazing discipline that was shown from the start by the incredible drummers, the dancers and the athleticism of the performers. Perhaps it should have been done on ice?
The cost was enormous and one has to wonder whether the money could have been better spent elsewhere.
Should London spend a fortune on the games in 2012? Can London pull it off?
Sadly I fear not.
