Today I Found A New (almost) Satellite Receiver In My Dumpster!

One Man's Trash Is Another Man's (or Woman's) Charity Donations

Here are some amazing facts from the EPA:

For instance, did you know that each person in the United States throws out 4.5 pounds of garbage every day? This amounts to:

* 1.5 tons for each of us every year
* 20,000 cars and 4,000 trucks and buses every day
* Forty-three thousand tons of food is thrown out every day
* Two and a half million plastic bottles every HOUR. * 270 million tires every year

34% of it is paper
13.1% of it is lawn trimmings
11.7% of it is food scraps
11.9% plastics
7.6% metals
7.3 rubber, leather, textiles
5.2% glass
5.7 wood
3.4 other stuff

Before you go tossing that item in the trash - think about it. Could someone us it? You know, someone could use those old tennis shoes of yours, and that broken window frame might be just the thing for a creative artist!

FREECYCLE.ORG is the place to list your unwanted (or wanted) items.

When you want to find a new home for something -- whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano, or an old door -- you simply send an e-mail offering it to members of the local Freecycle group.

Or, maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself. Simply respond to a member's offer, and you just might get it. After that, it's up to the giver to decide who receives the gift and to set up a pickup time for passing on the treasure.

Their main rule: Everything posted must be free, legal, and appropriate for all ages.

Nothing Feels Better Than Cuddling Up In A Soft Warm Quilt

Charity Donations of Materials and Quilts For Children

Wrap Them In Love Foundation

or

Project Linus

A person makes a quilt. A person lovingly picks a pattern, prepares the pieces, sews the top, fills, binds and finishes a quilt.

A person can make a child. A person can lovingly nurture a child, prepare the pieces, clean up and wash the outside, fill them with love, and hold them close to us forever, and let them fly free.

If you can sew, these charity organizations can use the help. If you can't sew (that would be me)- you can donate materials, help them update their website, help raise funds....

Every child deserves to feel warm and safe and loved.

Wonderful information, 5 stars! A good way to support your favorite charity is through cause marketing. Make personal purchases through non profits that partner with corporations. That way you will get what you need and help your charity at the same time. Perhaps you can donate more often this way.

This is such a nice lens. I really like the different ways to help the world. A man is paid in direct proportion to the service he renders mankind is a saying that springs to mind.

Give and you will receive. I thank you for reminding me to complete my obligations to society in a very well written lens and a timely one for the conditions going on in this world.

If you get the chance please also take a look at my contribution to the world to help people make money at http://www.HowToMakeMoneywithoutMoneyBlog.com

Now, now, now. You have a nice and wonderful list of things to do to save somebody or our Mother Earth! These are just simply useful and awesome information & I never thought I could see one until I've stumbled upon this lens of yours! I specially like the thought of donating hair to people who are victims of the big C, alopecia and other hair loss problems! Thanks for the information! Do drop by this site that offers recycled personalized checks! I recently got my own personalized LSU checks and it helped me save money on checks. I'm sure you will also love the idea!

If you can't or don't want to donate money, you can also volunteer your time, online, in your own home.
There are many online volunteering,or virtual volunteering sites. My favorite is the UN online volunteering site. This site lists many non profits and ngo's that need online volunteers to do things like make up project proposals, or do research, translations, etc. All which can be done anywhere with a computer and internet access. The link is (http://www.onlinevolunteering.org).
