Glasgow - A Music Lover's Paradise

Scotland is a small country, with a population of just over 5 million people. It has a tradition of producing Celtic music which can be traced back to ancient times, long before sound was ever recorded. But there is a lot more to music in Scotland than just fiddles and bagpipes. Scotland is the birthplace of Primal Scream, Teenage Fanclub, Texas, and the Proclaimers.
The heart of music in Scotland is Glasgow. It is the home of Franz Ferdinand, Travis, Biffy Clyro, and Orange Juice.
Bands come from all over the world to play in Glasgow, because it has a reputation for providing a great gig atmosphere. After playing the Barrowland ballroom in 1996, Metallica said it was the best gig they had ever played.
This lens is a comprehensive guide to the venues that Glasgow has to offer to bands; from toilet tour to stadium tour, and to discerning music lovers of every inclination.

If you only read one blog about music...

Make it Alan McGee's!

Alan McGee founded Creation Records and has been instrumental in growing the independent music scene in Scotland, signing acts like Primal Scream and Teenage fanclub. He also famously discovered and signed Oasis at King Tuts Wah-Wah hut in Glasgow in the 1990s

Talk Back

Thanks for reading my lens! I hope you found some new venues to visit, or even to play at. Please let me know if there are any you think I should have included (does McChuills deserve a spot, for example?) or tell me about your favourite gigs in Glasgow.
Some of my favourite gigs: Morrissey at the Carling Academy in 2007, Radiohead at the SECC in November 2004, The Libertines at the Barrowlands in 2005, New Order at Rock Werchter in 2005....
