Learn about the benefits of owning a glass aquarium

Glass aquarium advantages

Glass is the traditional material for aquariums and is still he most popular material used today. Glass aquariums are usually rectangular prisms in shape, but some molded glass aquarium are available for something a bit fancy.

The silica sand used to make glass is readily available helping to keep glass the cheapest material used in commercial fish tanks.

The hard shiny surfaces of a glass aquarium are difficult to scratch making them less prone to this type of damage than acrylic aquariums.

DIY drilling a hole in glass aquarium

For sump and other aquarium filters is can be necessary to drill a hole in the side of the fish tank. There is an art to drilling a hole such as this. By building a wall of plasticine around the drill site water can be used to act as a lubricant and wash for the hole saw. By doing to you reduce the rish of breaking the aquarium.

Drilling a 20g tank on the side. 2nd hole.

I wanted to make water changes a little easier. This will have a small pump attached to it later.
