We now have our own Glass Quest here in Stanwood, Washington, where each spring people search for hundreds of 'clue balls' hidden around town. Each clue ball can be exchanged for a handblown glass 'float' made by local glass artist Mark Ellinger, one of the glass artists involved with the Lincoln City event.

As a child we used to find the ones that floated in on the Japanese current on the beach.

I've never heard about this event, but it's a very creative way of promoting the artists.

This is one of the most unique events I've read about and a lovely idea. If I lived in the area I'd be out there looking for a float myself, it would be a thrill to find one!

Look out for this one on Squidoo Lens Reviews on Monday 20 Sept -- you can claim a review badge too if you like! :)

I wish I lived close enough to search for a float. Sounds like my kind of fun.

My son has an eagle eye for finding floats - We have found a few of the Finder's Keepers, a blue softball size Japanese float in a cave and a 37" Circumference Green float in the surf. :) You can see our beach finds here: http://pebblekeeping.blogspot.com

Very cool. Found treasures at the beach are always special, but I love the idea of nature combined with human intention to make this happen.

What a neat idea for a lens. Oregon is just down the coast from me (Washington), so I'll have to come down to visit and see if I can find a float. :)

Interesting! My wife & I always enjoyed watching the glass blowers at craft events. Not an easy art to learn by no means. Very informative lens. Good use of pictures and modules.
