Glazed Baked Ham, Too Yummy For Words!

How would you describe the best-ever glazed baked ham recipe? In my opinion, the recipe for the best baked ham would have to be fairly easy to put together and yield an absolutely delicious result. This recipe does just that. It is actually very easy and the result will melt-in-your-mouth.

This recipe has become a tradition at our house, both an Easter dinner tradition and a New Year's Day tradition. Occasionally, we have been known to have it at a special gathering in the summer as it is the perfect accompaniment to potato salad and country seed bread. We do reserve it for special occasions because we know that ham, especially the cut used in this recipe, is not a lean meat.

When you prepare this recipe for your friends and family, I hope that it brings the same rave reviews at your house as it does every single time at mine. My youngest son was actually heard recently to say, "I liked it better when Doug did not like ham!" Can you guess why a 15-year old teenager would say that? If you guessed because sharing it with his brother means there is less for him, then you would be right!

Best-Ever Glazed Baked Ham Recipe

This recipe serves 10 to 12 people. It really could not be easier!

You will need:

A 6 to 7 pound cooked ham with the bone in. In Canada, this ham is called a smoked pork picnic shoulder ham
1/2 cup of orange marmalade (although I often substitute other jams like pineapple)
2 tablespoons of honey mustard (this can be a prepared honey mustard or a simple mix of equal parts of honey and mustard)
Whole cloves

Directions:
  1. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Line a 13 by 9 inch pan with foil and put in a small rack.
  3. Remove the wrapper from the ham. My hams also come with a mesh on them that I remove.
  4. Cut away the tough rind on the ham leaving at least 1/4 inch of the fat which helps keep the meat from drying out as it cooks.
  5. Score the top and the sides in a diamond pattern.
  6. Add a clove in the center area of each diamond.
  7. Place ham in the dish with the decorated side up.
  8. Stir together the glaze ingredients in a small bowl.
  9. Brush the ham with about half of the glaze.
  10. Bake for 1 hour and then brush with the rest of the glaze.
  11. Cook for 30 minutes longer or until a meat thermometer registers 140 degrees.
  12. Place ham on a cutting board or serving platter and allow 20 minutes before carving.

Family Traditions Spring From The Oddest Places

A bit of humorous ham!

There was a young lady getting a ham ready for dinner. She cut off the end of the ham and put it in the pan.

A watching friend asked why she cut off the end of the ham and the young lady replied that she did not know but that her mother always did that so she thought you were supposed to do it.

When asked, her mother replied that she did not know why she cut off the end of the ham but that her mother always did that so she thought you were supposed to do it.

Finally, when the Grandmother was asked why she cut off the end of the ham before she baked it the Grandmother replied that it would not fit into her baking pan!

With reviews like 'Awesome Knife,' 'Superior Electric Knife,' this electric knife sounds like a great one. I do not have the privilege of this nice new one but I know that I would really miss my electric knife. It just makes the job so much easier and faster. I definitely use it on my baked ham but I also use it on all of my roasts and all of my bread-machine bread.

This Cuisinart unit has a powerful motor with two stainless-steel blades one of which is for carving and one of which is for bread. It has an ergonomic handle designed for right- or left-handed people, a wooden storage tray with a lock, a one-touch control, and cord storage.

Amazon Customer Review:

"My husband was given an Amazon gift certificate and decided to order a ham for Christmas from Omaha Steaks. Wow. This spiral sliced ham was the best ham we have eaten and the company takes great pride in their presentation and shipping. The product came in a wonderful container, which kept it refrigerated while being shipped. We will certainly order from Omaha Steaks again."

HoneyBaked Hams "What the World Needs Now" Commercial

Our ham is delicious enough to lick the plate afterward but not for the same reason illustrated in this video.

I was searching for something light, like a joke to put on this page but then I found this fun video...I hope you enjoy it! Unfortunately though, there was more than one funny HoneyBaked Hams video...and that necessiated the creation of a separate page full of these hysterical videos. It is still under development, I will post it here shortly.
