His career spanned 7 decades
Glenn Ford was a Canadian born American actor best known for his roles as cowboys or ordinary men experiencing unusual life experiences. He was a part of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Born in 1916 and left this earth in 2006 at the age of 90.
One of my favorite movies with him was The Courtship of Eddie's Father where he played a widowed father looking for love.

Reasons I love Glenn Ford
His rugged good looks that only seemed to improve with age. He didn't fit into the extraordinarily handsome category of his time but instead had that appeal of the good looking guy next door. His incredible talent of making you believe that he was the character that he portrayed. Glenn Ford could handle the light comedic role along with the role of a rough cowboy or a sensitive teacher.
Something that I found out about this actor that surprised me was that he was a naturalized American citizen who served as a U.S. Marine in World War II and he served in the U. S. Naval Reserves for decades after the war with the rank of Captain. Visiting troops in Korea and Viet Nam he did a lot to boost the morale of those troops. It is also reported that he was used on some secret missions on his trips to Viet Nam.
Ford was known as a bit of a womanizer in his heyday and was good friends with fellow actor William Holden. Glenn Ford was married and divorced 4 times and had reported relationships with many starlets including the lovely Rita Hayworth. This isn't exactly a trait that makes me love him but it does make him the man that he was.

Glenn Ford is one of those actors who always made a movie worth watching just because he was in it. I liked him best in Westerns. Fastest Gun Alive and Jubal are favorites.
