The man, the band, the music, the legend...
Glenn Miller has been gone for over 60 years, but his music and legacy live on. Albums and CDs continue to sell, the Glenn Miller Orchestra plays to sold out crowds across the country (and overseas) and new fans are discovering the music every day. Two of his most popular tunes, "In the Mood" and "Moonlight Serenade" (his theme) are easily recognizable and have been used in films, television shows, commercials and even sampled in new modern pop songs.
Miller himself had said, all those years, ago that he didn't want to be the King of Swing. He didn't want to be king of anything. All he cared about was having the best all around band. Critics grumbled that his band was too disciplined, that he didn't play enough "real" jazz and that some of his tempos were "too fast." But the record buying public was his bread and butter and he knew it. He made records people wanted to dance to and listen to without sacrificing quality. And they bought them. By the bundle.
Today, many of Miller's arrangements and songs sound just as fresh and exciting as the day they were recorded. In fact, many of those tunes that were considered "too fast" back in the early '40s, are some of the most swinging numbers you'll ever hear. His fans dug the tunes then, and they're still a hit today.

- I liked the lens, from someone who was born before Glenn Miller's time. I am a longtime fan, who among many consider him, the number 1 bandleader.

- Great lens and an outstanding story of the famed Glenn Miller. I have seen the movie with James stewart playing the part of Glenn Miller and it shedded more info on the life and times of the man.
