This is a great lens! People need to start thinking about a solution for global warming because it is slowly becoming a serious problem.

Very interesting lens. I think CO2 is the main cause of global warming. Somebody should invent a flying machine that would suck some of the CO2 from the air, and then store them underground to be used again as energy source. There's just not enough tress on Earth to reduce CO2. Great lens, by the way!

I believe that God will never allow small gready people to destroy his masterpiece - the world with the mankind on it. He will act.

Interesting Lens - I'm still not fully onboard with the whole issue - think there's too much politics and money making going on - saying that - nothing wrong with being green!

Thanks for a great resource. I've added your lens to the Earth Hour 2008 lens, to get everyone to turn out the lights for one hour 8:00 pm on March 29, 2008 in an effort to raise awareness about climate change.

Jack, I gave you 5 stars for this very passionate, informative and well researched lens. I support your idea of creating a high-level project to fight global warming. E.g., it could be done by using only 1% of military budget in every country and using it to solve this crisis.

That will only work assuming that the water will rise as a result of global warming. It is not clear that would happen. If you take a block of ice and place in in a large bucket and fill the water to the brim, and wait for the block to melt. I predict their will be very little over flow spillage. That is because the block of ice will contract in volume when it reverts to water and some will evaporate. The net gain in water level is minute. Hard to believe it but that is exactly what Antartica is.

SO, How about we solve the problem of rising water levels by: Creating great man made lakes in the Deserts of the world and piping the water from the sea into these giant resevoirs. This water can then be used to reclaim the deserts and desalinated to sole drinking water shortages around the world!!

datingtips93, Thanks for stopping by. I am aware of the rain forest depletion going on. I think the impact is more on natural drugs that we may loose because of the depletion rather than affect on global warming. The Earth seeems to have a built in mechanism to adjust.

I like the brain storms. I think putting dust in our atmosphere is risky as it could cause a cooling. A sudden ice age or mini ice age won't be much fun. The shutter idea is cool, reminds me of one of Arthur C Clark's books. I have to say though, have you looked at the stats on the Amazon forest?

Jill, I have been following this much publicized report summary. It should be noted that the actual report is not due until a few months. This is an attempt to sway public opinion. Until I see the actual scientific study and review their results, I can't take the opinion of some scientists as fact.

Jack, thx for an interesting lens. Can you please comment on the UN scientific panel's recent report which concludes that humans ARE the significant cause of global warming?

another interesting and well thought out lens by a great lensmaster! It takes courage to share various thoughts that contribute to the debate. Good luck!

Humankind's contributions to the natural warming or cooling cycles of the earth are the same as throwing a bucket of water into the ocean raises the tide. Theoretically true, but realistically insignificant. Removing all of the people tomorrow would not stop the cycle. Enough Luddite fantasies.
