Amputee Empowerment & Malnutrition Eradication Provides a Platform of Encouragement

John Daniel Kelly is a 4th yr medical student at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. He traveled to Sierra Leone on a Global Health Fellowship to help those in need.

A native Sierra Leonean doctor, Dr. Barrie, and Dan co-founded an ngo called the National Organization for Welbody (NOW). NOW has established two programs:

1)The Amputee Empowerment Program. NOW provides 20 amputee families with one 50 lb. bag of rice each month. NOW also registered 119 children of amputee families at local schools for one year.

2)The Malnutrition Eradication Program. NOW made an arrangement with a Catholic hospital in Lunsar to hospitalize and treat children who would starve to death without treatment.

Dan, Yachtz Radcliff and John Chase created a foundation in the United States called the Global Action Foundation (GAF) to help eradicate extreme poverty. GAF now funds the National Organization for Welbody (NOW) in Sierra Leone.

The Amputee Coalition of America

In America, the mission to restore dignity for amputees is easier to accomplish due to easy access to modern technology.

Their mission is to reach out to people with limb loss and to empower them through education, support and advocacy.

By supporting GAF, we can help them extend comfort, medical care and the restoration of the dignity of those who have suffered unimaginable injuries.

Care for amputee victims is a delicate process, and the GAF medical team addresses the need in far, far less than ideal circumstances.

I can't imagine what life must be like for so many in Sierra Leone without one limb, yet many have both limbs missing. Poor and without the means to provide for one's family is beyond anything I can fathom. Great work you are doing here.

Great Lens, this is a very important cause and your lens gives a lot of great info. My lens is about kickstart.org. They make equipment that helps people in Africa, Asia and South America help themselves to become entrepeneurs and get out of poverty.

Great information. My only suggestion is to shorten the title of your lens. The important information should appear in the introduction area. This is what counts for search ranking...
