Cuban food remains something of a mystery to many people but this book is very well worth a look. I am only just beginning to learn about latin cuisine - but Estefan Kitchen is a great place to start.
Gloria grew up with a strong family history of traditional Cuban cooking. Her great grandfather was a chef and her grandmother dreamed of owning a restaurant. This book has a great feel of tradition, and includes many Estefan family photos.
Cuban food can certainly be great comfort food and it is a lot of fun to experiment with these great recipes. Many of the recipes are adapted from those on the menus of the Estefan's successful Cuban recipes. I am enjoying experimenting with all the new flavors and learning more about this wonderful latin cuisine.

Gloria Estefan is of course best known as the 5 Grammy Award winning singing sensation. She has sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
But she and her husband Emilio are very successful restaurant owners. They have seven Cuban themed restaurants in Miami; Miami Beach, Downtown Miami, part of the American Airlines Arena; Disney World's Downtown Disney in Orlando; Mexico City; and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
I have dined at their restaurant in Downtown Disney at their Bongos Cuban Cafe many times and love their food and the fun atmosphere of the restaurant. I always choose the fried Cuban sweet potato and I love the vegetarian platter. Another favorite is the Cuban sandwich. Desert is my weakness of course and it is great to find some great Cuban dishes to finish of the meal. My favorites include the guava shells and the traditional Cuban flan.

If you want another interesting introduction to the world of latin american cuisine then you will want to get your hands on this cook book. The author has an interesting cultural background which blends to give a unique take on latin cuisine. The recipes have a latin feel and are influenced by the authors travels in Spain. Try the paella, mustard crusted brisket, or lobster bisque. Certainly a recipe book worth delving into!
