Simple Gluhwein Recipe
- Serves: 3-4
- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 30-45 minutes
This is a basic recipe for Gluhwein. Most recipes specify any inexpensive red wine. Cheaper wines have a higher sugar content, which makes them more suitable for making Gluhwein.
Ingredients
- 750 ml red wine
- 1 stick cinnamon
- 6 whole cloves
- Rind of half a lemon
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- rum
- brandy
- vodka
- or schnapps (optional)
Instructions
Break cinnamon stick into pieces. Remove rind from lemon in one long piece.
In a sauce pan, combine wine, lemon rind, spices, and sugar.
Simmer covered over medium-low heat for 20-30 minutes; do not allow to boil.
Longer heating times will result in a more cinnamon flavor.
Taste, adding sugar as needed.
Serve hot!
Add a shot of rum, brandy, vodka or schnapps if desired.
