How to setup your vacation auto-responder on gmail

here are some problems people have encountered when trying to setup the vacation autoresponder:

I am having difficulty with the Vacation e-mail:
"You have enabled the vacation responder but you have not provided a

What does this mean? What do I do?

As with so many others, I'm completely frustrated by this bug in
Gmail. Multiple times now, I have typed in a message below the
responder, as well as a subject line, saved changes -- and Gmail says
I've not provided a response message. This feature is so basic: why on
earth doesn't Gmail get it right?

One gmail autoresponder suggestion that didnt work

A handful of users have reported the same issue, i.e. even after typing in the vacation responder message and subject, apparently it still gives the same error message.

All the Vacation Responders in all GMail accounts I know are working fine, so this is just a guess on how to fix it -

1. Remove or disable the Vacation Responder and sign out of your GMail and all associated Google Account services.

2. Clear your browser's cookies and cache completely. Visit http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/s...
and clear the list of stored cookies and objects on your machine. Then clear your browser's cookies and cache once again.

3. Close and re-start your browser, and sign in through https://mail.google.com/mail/ or https://mail.google.com/mail?nocheckbrowser
4. Go to your Settings > Accounts, and (a) fill in the message and subject in the Vacation Responder, (b) enable it, (c) Save changes.

More feedback

Nopes. As I said, I'm seeing Vacation Responders active and working in multiple accounts. But these are previously set VRs and not new ones. I don't know whether there are any current temporary technical glitches preventing these from being set. In that case, possibly you could try later.

Are you sure that if you sign in using the secure url you are unable to set the VR ? Have you used Internet Explorer or Firefox or both?

I'm having exact same problem with Vacation Responder.
Despite typing a response message i get...

You have enabled the vacation responder but you have not provided a response message. argghh sort it out gmail!

I am having the exact problem described ... trying to set up a
vacation repsonse and do so and know I am doing so correctly because I
also still have a googlemail account from my time in the UK and that
works fine, the messages I am trying to leave are identical, but with
my gmail account I get the same error message, that I have turned on
my vacation responder but that I have not provided a message.

I have spent the last hour following your instructions to the letter and have cleared everything I could, even logging off the web and performing a disk tune up and a defrag and system restore ... and nothing has worked. The error message remains exactly as described.
