So, what happened to GNR?
The answer to this question is really a difficult one to answer. It seems to me however that there are three possible reasons for the split of GNR.
1) They were a victim of their own successes. Their meteoric rise caused each of them to grow egos, and eventually led to conflict down the road.
2) The departure of Izzy Stradlin. For Appetite for Destruction, Izzy was one of the main song writers, along with the rhthm guitarist. As Axl's increasingly tried to take the spotlight from the rest of the band, Izzy got mad and quit the band. From then on, Guns n Roses would never be the same.
3) Axl Rose was crazy. Axl didn't really like anybody else trying to run what he saw as his band. His ideas generally ran contrary to what the rest of the band wanted, and as they turned against him, Axl got mad and quit the band himself, thus dissolving GNR.
