Upward Trend in Fuel Prices
With the recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz, the price of oil is likely to increase. And this will aggravate the burden on motorists since the immediate impact will be on the pump prices of gasoline and diesel. This may necessitate using our vehicle less often and opting for the mass transit. Are there other alternatives?
Fortunately, the technology for LPG conversion is already mature, and motorists may take advantage of this. After all, liquified petroleum gas is said to be 40% cheaper than gasoline and 20% less than diesel.
However, an initial investment in converting your existing engine to LPG will have to be made. But the good thing is that, the government is offering upto $ 2,000 for those who wish to have their cars converted.

The Benefits of LPG Conversion

Aside from the aforementioned savings due to lower cost, LPG has the following benefits:
1. It is more environment friendly than gas or diesel. Its low carbon content results in a significantly lower carbon footprint, which is good for our health and environment.
2. The proper diesel conversion kit may bring about improvement in engine performance. This is attributable to a much higher combustion rate. The engine runs smoother and so there is less wear. This also results in longer engine life.
3. No engine modification is required since conversion kits are available for various types of diesel and gasoline engines.
4. A liquified petroleum gas conversion subsidy is provided by the Australian government. This will reduce the initial cash outlay.

Of course, the biggest factor to consider is the substantial savings in fuel cost, which will offset the initial cost of conversion in no time. In fact, there are websites that provide assistance in calculating the amount saved as well as the payback period should one opt to convert to LPG.
There are disadvantages as well, but aside from the already mentioned cost of conversion, these are minor. The LPG tank will take up significant space in your vehicle. At the same time, LPG is not as readily available as gas and diesel.
The LPG burn rate in diesel engines can be as high as 98%
Choosing an LPG Conversion Kit

Depending on your vehicle model, a vapor injection or venturi system may be installed. The former is applicable to newer vehicles, and more often than not, it works with the engine's management system. The latter is used in older engines.
Needless to say, the vapor injection type is more expensive due to the added complexity of the kit. Also, different conversion kits are available for different vehicle makes. A reputable engine installer should be able to recommend the appropriate kit for your vehicle. Be sure to ask the experts advice before anything else.

It is best to work on the computation before opting for diesel or gas conversion. You should find the payback period, which is dependent on the fuel consumption of your vehicle as well as the distance traveled per month, acceptable. At the same time, make sure that there is adequate liquified petroleum gas refilling stations in your area.
The most common type of LPG conversion is the dual fuel type, which means that you can use LPG.
